It would never happen that two patrols could spawn and one could have spawned behind you that you didn’t notice? Or that you’re close to an outpost and caught agro? Can you not tell which way a projectile is flying? Not to mention not everyone has surround sound, yeah sound works in a silent environment not in a firefight. This hypothetical could definitely happen if you thought about it for five seconds.

Both old and new official art of lasguns firing depicts them as yellow. We're talking as far back as 2nd and 3rd edition. Red lasguns was a construct of Dawn of War 1, which other video game designers used as their visual guide.

But the bots are red. Imagine from a gameplay perspective on how confusing it would be. You and your buddy drop on a bot planet, your buddy is behind you as you two sneak around a bit till you engage a patrol. You and your partner can wipe out the hole patrol if you synchronize your shots. You start firing and then you see red bolts (what the bots fire) start coming from behind. You whip around thinking it’s more bots that spotted you. And as it turns out it’s your buddy shooting not a bot and in those precious seconds a bot shoots a flare and calls a bot drop.

@mjspz @JMako67 @helldivers2 That boltgun is a bolt pistol, and sound design in WH40k has always been wacky because the source was books. Let me get the authentic bolt pistol sound *turns page, paper ruffles*. Amazing. And yellow is clearly a game design choice because of the bots.

It’s not bad, but it comes down to personal preference on if you like the Imperial Guard or not. Me personally since I love Cadians and Karskin I cannot wait. A little disappointed the Lasgun doesn’t shoot red bolts but I understand why from a gameplay perspective. Wish we got something else instead of the melta but meh I meltas are cool. Wish we for the back battery pack Hellgun (hot-shot) instead of the long range version but I can live with it. Wish there was a bit more like a plasma gun or melee but I’m happy with what we got.
