@MarkCalc @LetsKickHateNow The greens were oiled sand from 1907 until 1935 Calc. Not sure what sand greens would Stimp at, but I would think they were pretty slow! Speaking from a superintendent’s perspective, 14’ is so stupid and not really good for the game.

I’m ready for some abuse. Just gonna spit it out!! Pinehurst is such a cool area with great courses. #2 ain’t one of them. Most overrated course in the world!! Lemme have it!! But it’s true

@TonyTurf @GrumpyGreenkepr Happened at Kiawah -Marsh Point. 150 post on the right. One yard out of the fairway and in 4 inches of Bermuda rough. Lost the press hole and had to hear it for the 3 hour ride.

@kclairerogers Fashion be damned: Always bring your golf shoes in case it rains. That Georgia clay gets as slippery as ice and smells like butt soup.

@Top100Rick Design matters. I once played the Donald Ross gem Wannamoisett in 1:50 on foot fighting sundown. One of the best walking courses, with only about 440 yds of combined total distance from green to next tee. Having only one par 5 helps. We have nice, walkable par 69 courses in RI.

Recently we were discussing pace of play on Twitter and a bunch of guys said walking in 4 hours is impossible. Not only is it possible, but it’s required at many of the great courses, including Inverness, Oakmont, and Merion. Talk while walking, be ready to hit. So easy.

@showtimehcky @PGATUOR What a horrible take. It’s every player’s responsibility to help take care of the course in consideration of their playing partners and those following behind. It’s a game of honor.

To many etiquette rules in golf and how to "act" on the course. Just play the damn game, have fun, do your best, and stop being so stiff about everything.

@Top100Rick The overwhelming majority of the time damage to the hole is caused by golfers reaching in to remove the ball with the flag in. As a superintendent, I loathe the fact that the USGA changed the rule about leaving the flag in while on the green. We have to change holes much more now

My friend measures for gimmies like this. I told him not to, it can damage the hole. He said I’m an idiot and it doesn’t matter. Who is right? (And don’t be the “I never take gimmies guy.” Gimmies are literally part of match play.)

@JSE922 Tees and greens= a mix of creeping bentgrass/annual bluegrass (poa annua), fairways are bentgrass/poa annua/perennial ryegrass and some poa trivialis (grainy stuff in 9 fairway 100 yards from the green). The rough has a bit of all of the above plus fescues and Kentucky Bluegrass.

@SHistorians @USGA My favorite course. Great Tillinghast design. Only the greens and tees have irrigation. So much fun in the summer and fall when the fairways are baked.

A photo I took while playing Newport CC a couple of years ago. NCC not only hosted the first @USGA sanctioned US Open & US Amateur it also holds many little secrets. I have a podcast in mind, but need the time to travel there to make it happen. One of my favorite clubs!

@SyngentaTurf Being near the ocean, we have so many windy days in the spring, so we have to catch a calm window to get the sprayers out. Acelepryn affords us plenty of leeway to apply early or later and still get great control of our most troublesome pests. Safe and effective. #Time4Acelepryn
