@aushamaki Very important aspects you raised here, thanks. However, i believe it is also important to highlight what role do we ‘the citizenry’ can play in salvaging the situation that Arewa has found itself in.

Because if we don’t solve the root causes, Northern Nigeria risks repeating the same cycle: calm → complacency → relapse → shock → another crisis. We’ve lived through this loop for too long. Lasting peace will come only when we fix the foundations—not just the symptoms.

Let’s be brutally honest: Even if banditry and kidnapping were to stop today in Northern Nigeria, the region is still structurally wired for a relapse. Crime is not a switch you turn off; it’s a system created by deeper forces. Remove the symptoms without curing the disease, and the crisis returns—sometimes worse.
