اسکات بسنت، وزیر خزانه‌داری ایالات متحده، بامداد پنجشنبه ۱۰ اردیبهشت در گفتگو با شبکه فاکس اعلام کرد واشنگتن دارایی‌های مقام‌های جمهوری اسلامی در خارج از کشور، از جمله ویلاهای آن‌ها در جنوب فرانسه، را مصادره کرده و برای مردم ایران نگه می‌دارد. او گفت این اقدام بخشی از تشدید کارزار فشار اقتصادی است و تاکید کرد «رییس جمهوری دستور این عملیات را صادر کرده است». بسنت افزود این کارزار فشار حداکثری بیش از یک سال پیش آغاز شده و در اسفند ماه به وزارت خزانه‌داری ابلاغ شده است. وزیر خزانه‌داری آمریکا گفت این فشارها اقتصاد رژیم ایران را در آذر ماه به بن‌بست رسانده و به بروز اعتراضات منجر شده است. او همچنین گفت یکی از بزرگ‌ترین بانک‌های ایران فروپاشیده و بانک مرکزی ناچار به افزایش نقدینگی شده که به گفته او «تورم گسترده» ایجاد کرده است. بسنت با اشاره به وضعیت ارزی ایران افزود ارزش پول ملی در برابر دلار آمریکا حدود ۶۰ تا ۷۰ درصد کاهش یافته و کشور درگیر بحران ارزی است. او تاکید کرد این روند در کنار اقدامات دیگر، از جمله فشار بر خریداران نفت ایران، ادامه خواهد داشت. او در پایان گفت آمریکا به شناسایی و مسدود کردن دارایی‌های خارجی مقام‌های جمهوری اسلامی ادامه می‌دهد و این دارایی‌ها را «برای مردم ایران» نگه می‌دارد.
