The R0 of Andes Virus in the Epuyen outbreak was 2.1, with a 32% fatality rate - with early intervention & medical care. There is no cure or treatment. Ebola, w/ early interventions & treatment, has an R0 of 2.0, & a fatality rate as low as 6%. We shouldn't be dicking around.

St Helena: High Risk Hantavirus Contact Now Symptomatic We understand that a high risk contact in Ascension has developed symptoms consistent with hantavirus. Initial testing for hantavirus was negative, from samples shipped to the United Kingdom, but further investigations are ongoing. We also understand that a family member of this contact travelled to St Helena on Sunday 10 May 2026. This family member is not suspected to have been infected with hantavirus but has been asked to enter isolation as a precaution until the full testing results and details of the situation are confirmed. There is currently no indication of any additional risk to the wider population in St Helena as a result of this development. This individual is part of a group of medical personnel on Ascension Island who had close contact with a confirmed case and had already been assessed as higher risk. As a precaution, plans are in place for their relocation. These arrangements are being kept under review to ensure they can respond to any change in clinical circumstances. There's a museum in HCMC dedicated to documenting american war crimes in Vietnam. They have some preserved fetuses in glass cases that had severe birth defects from agent orange. They look like something out of the Alien movies. One of the worst things I've ever seen in my life

I can’t believe agent orange is still affecting vietnamese people and causing birth defects after 2-3 generations since exposure and hardly anyone talks about it

The full consequences of agent orange haven’t been actualized in the Lao PDR because of how difficult it is to survey remote communities There are entire “leper villages” full of Lao people with birth defects that are only traversable a few weeks during dry season

Kentucky booked an Israeli DJ for Pride. The entire pageant board resigned and other entertainers pulled out. If Kentucky can do this, there's no reason other major cities like NYC can't do the same!

⛓️ Trump’s DHS has appointed former GEO Group executive David Venturella as acting ICE director, placing a longtime private prison industry figure in charge of the agency overseeing mass detentions and deportations. Venturella worked for private prison giant GEO Group from 2012 to 2023 as senior vice president of client relations and corporate development, then continued as a paid consultant through January 2025. The company currently holds more than $1 billion in ICE detention contracts, requiring a formal ethics waiver for Venturella to return to government service. He replaces outgoing acting ICE director Todd Lyons amid a broader DHS reshuffling after Trump fired former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem earlier this year. New DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin has reportedly pushed a lower-profile enforcement strategy aimed at keeping DHS “out of the headlines” while continuing aggressive deportation operations. Lyons oversaw a major hiring surge and sweeping raids that sparked growing public outrage, including after ICE agents fatally shot two U.S. citizens during operations in Minneapolis. Venturella is a longtime immigration enforcement official who previously ran ICE’s Secure Communities program under both Bush and Obama, a system that used local jail databases to identify undocumented immigrants for deportation. Border czar Tom Homan also previously worked for GEO Group. 🎥 More background from @Channel5iveNews Andrew Callaghan with Washington Post journalist Douglas Mcmillan

#hantavirus ➡️🇺🇸 USA: CDC not requiring hantavirus cruise passengers to isolate at home - The CDC said on Wed. that the hantavirus remains a low public health risk and while the agency is “encouraging” American passengers of the infected cruise ship to isolate at home,➡️ the absence of a formal quarantine order means ⚠️ these individuals can go out in public if they choose. - At this moment, I want to emphasize that the risk to the general public is low. Our top priority is both the passengers who are on the ship and American communities,” David Fitter, incident manager for the CDC’s hantavirus response said in a press briefing. - “Our role now is to continue our conversations with each passenger about their potential exposure and work with partners to ensure appropriate monitoring,” he added. - CDC officials further emphasized that the hantavirus is a “known virus” that has been found in the U.S. before. Given the virus’s incubation period, ➡️ the CDC is maintaining a 42-day monitoring period, which they consider having ➡️ begun on May 11 and set to end on June 22. - When asked about individuals quarantining at home, Fitter said the CDC is currently taking a “conservative approach” that involves “encouraging” people to stay home during the monitoring period. - The individuals who were taken to the University of Nebraska have also been “encouraged that they can stay in Nebraska.” - During the briefing, it was noted that➡️ adherence would be hard to guarantee, and Fitter was asked about concerns over the people who are monitoring for symptoms at home. - ⚠️ They are currently only testing people who are symptomatic. - ➡️ “Currently, there are no state or federal quarantine orders that have been drawn. We’re working really closely with all contacts to ensure that they understand what is expected for them to perfectly monitor themselves,” said Fitter. “We also want to make sure that they have the right information so that they can understand the situation as best as possible.” - “If they need to do it somewhere else, we will work with them,” Fitter said. When pressed on whether efforts were being made to keep exposed individuals at isolated facilities, he added, “Our goal is to continue to work with them to the best possible place for them.” - ➡️ Citing individual privacy, CDC officials declined to say where the individuals isolating at home live or how many are currently not in a specialized facility.
