@RiotPhroxzon People asked for a reset, they get what they asked for. I have no pity for anyone complaining about matchmaking quality because it's literally a fudge around n find out moment.

[Apex Matchmaking] Wanted to add a bit of context to some of the Apex Matchmaking fairness conversations happening recently. What we've been hearing 1. It's frustrating to have Diamonds and Challengers in the same game Response: Agree with this being a not ideal experience and it's an item to resolve when we can get to it. Only making Challenger queue times longer isn't something we can do right now without unintended consequences or negative tradeoffs on queue times/match quality We currently have a few higher priority things we're working on, but it's something we want to be able to do in the future 2. These massive LP Diff games are unfair Response: We currently believe that games that have Large LP diffs are ~fair, with the way we are matchmaking them rn. There are other factors we take into consideration as well like Duos, Autofill balance, etc. On average, we observe Apex+ teams have between a 49-51% chance to win anywhere from 0 LP diff between teams to 2000 LP diff. This is because we're matchmaking on MMR, not LP currently. However, these large LP diffs can be pretty confronting to look at and make the match look unfair. 95% of games fall under 1500 LP diff between teams, 86% under 1000LP, 65% under 500LP. We have more work to do here to make matches both be fair and look fair. I've attached 2 examples of random games with these diffs. Sometimes there are low rank alt accounts that are actually super strong players that actually have very high ratings (and are often duoing). Other times (the vast majority), the MMR of the teams are fair, but their LP values are desynced for a variety of reasons (climb timing, etc.) There are of course games where there's a lopsided LP diff and the team with higher LP wins, but it happens as often as the lower LP team winning.

@drewlevin The cognitive dissonance is INSANE from the community. I don't like everything Riot does (the reset is one of the things in this case), but I do feel bad for you guys working there sometimes with how illiterate your top 1% of your playerbase is (and everyone else ngl).

pretty wild to read a bunch of masters+ players talk about how bad matchmaking feels 72 hours after we stopped using a bunch of historical data references that underpinned skill evaluation in apex, then scroll down and read someone argue that we should’ve done that for all ranks.

We're in the process of micropatching fixes to Cut Down damage being bugged, as well as a niche Viego interaction where he does more damage than expected. Unrelated: How have things been going in Apex Reset regions? How is Match Quality, Queue Times, etc.

@zenekia1 @RiotPhroxzon 0~300LP is the same at D1~100LP last season if even. Things are not going back to normal because they haven't changed anything under the hood. They've still shifted everyone up to deflate Iron, and they've still uncapped LP gains. 1.5k LP GM is gonna be back later anyway.

Thank you for listening to the players at the top of the ladder. As a player who sits between Master 0 and 300 LP and is constantly improving, it had become pointless for me to play solo queue—it was just frustrating, even just seeing Grandmaster players at 1500 LP. This change was essential, and now I hope everything will get back to normal.

Wanted to clarify a few things for the upcoming Apex Reset in NA, EUW, EUNE, TR, LAN, BR (other regions didn't experience enough instability to meaningfully affect competitive integrity) 1. There will be no advantage to rolling a fresh account or a smurf vs playing on your existing account, so please play on your existing account 2. After the reset, the intent is that there will be no accounts with an LP or MMR higher than Master 0LP 3. We are planning to disallow Apex+ duoing for at least the first patch to allow MMR's to settle a bit Thanks for all your patience and hope that we can make Season 2 climbs a great experience

@RiotPhroxzon Disable duoing in Masters+ forever. Why is it that western servers need to be reset but not CN or KR?

@drewlevin I'm pretty sad that this is the direction Riot took. The system was already making progress to getting everyone to where they needed to be and now we just ruined match quality for the rest of the year for apex tier. 3 resets per year died for a reason.

@RiotAugust Kinda hoping the kit is either good for OldShyv players, or the direction is something interesting for non-OldShyv players. The things I was saddest about as a on and off AP OldShyv player in the re-work is I was hoping to see a more interesting passive.

The team has been working on some Shyvana changes for 16.9. They should be showing up on the PBE soon.
