@nytimes @TheAthleticFC Canada did the right thing! Why can a man facing rape charges still represent his country in war? Women's safety is never a trivial matter. If it were an ordinary person, they would have been completely ostracized by society long ago

From @TheAthleticFC: Thomas Partey was denied entry into Canada and will not play in Ghana’s opening World Cup game. The former Arsenal midfielder is due to stand trial in the UK on seven charges of rape and one of sexual assault. He denies the charges. nyti.ms/444lFgP

Big respect to everyone who raised their voice and the kind hearted person who paid the fine. Glad Swanky is back with his family. Influence and celebrity status should never be used to crush ordinary people. Justice should correct wrongdoing, not leave people destroyed over social media disputes.

A piece of good news worth reporting is that Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, popularly known online by his handles @Swanky001 and Swanky_concept, has regained his freedom after a Good Samaritan paid the court-imposed fine. Adeyeye was arrested, prosecuted, and convicted by a Federal High Court in Lagos on charges of cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and spreading information the court found to be false and malicious. The case arose from social media posts concerning the daughter of popular Nigerian singer @adekunleGOLD and his wife, @SympLySimi . Following public interventions regarding the prison sentence imposed on him, a concerned benefactor stepped forward and paid the court-imposed fine in lieu of imprisonment. As a result, Adeyeye has now been released and reunited with his family.

A fiery speech by South Africa's🇿🇦 EFF leader Julius Malema, over xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals. “You say Zimbabweans take your jobs. Nigerians take your jobs. You march, close shops and beat up people. Tell us after doing that how many jobs have you created, by beating up these Nigerians, Zimbabweans and Ghanaians? You beat people because they took your jobs. You close a shop that hires people. How many have you created after beating and chasing them? Unskilled men, with no skills, none whatsoever, say somebody took away their jobs. I don't want your votes if you behave like that. Take them away. Pushing out of school an African child that looks like you, I will never do that. You can take your votes. Make me die with my conscience very clearly. I will never refuse a pregnant woman of African descent to give birth in the clinics of South Africa. Never!”

@Letter_to_Jack I think the presidency has every right to defend any institution irrespective of the allegation against the institution. The president appoints all head of every institution/organisation in Nigeria, any harm to them is to presidency too. People will always complain.

On INEC. I don’t think it’s appropriate for anyone with direct links (or strong, publicly known political affiliation) to the Presidency to post in defense of INEC during a self-inflicted integrity crisis which is emanating from the very top of the commission. INEC is the electoral umpire; the leadership must pass the thumb-rule of fairness. When there are indicators/evidence of political partisanship, the ruling party can’t have people in official positions defending it. INEC certainly has a media and PR budget; if there’s a need to communicate, let them contract professionals to push whatever rebuttal they have. Of which, I believe that a tell-it-all-as-it-is press conference would have been a good start to managing this self-inflicted integrity crisis. Wherever it then leads.

@elnathan_john On a side note, Nigerians defend/praise corrupt official because they have internalized the delusion that they are just one hustle, one contract, or one prayer away from occupying that exact seat. Condemning the system feels like cursing their own future wealth.

What is wrong with you people?
This is nap time. The radio silence is completely normal; the kids have been conditioned to it over time.
I know this because I’m a father. My own children have their routine, and the moment it’s nap time, they already know.

Did you read to understand or you read to respond? Go to any part of the world, the police have every right to tame you with best methods known to them if you're behaving stubborn or resisting arrest. When next police stops you, tell them because you are a woman, you will start behaving f00lish. Female police go handle you in the language you understand

The part before she went live Just before 2am, police on night patrol stopped a car conveying three men and two women and asked to check the car. She bluntly refused saying, ‘You cannot search my car. Don’t you know Papaya? Even your bosses know me.’ She chose to rather go to the station after which an officer sat in her vehicle, not before an initial refusal. Her vehicle was in front while the patrol vehicle was following behind. She instructed her driver to speed off, leaving the patrol vehicle far behind. At that rate, the patrol van was going to lose them. The police had to radio the patrol team far ahead to intercept them. Then the live began… @LagosPoliceNG will take it from here.

Osun Babes, the female team of Osun State Govt traveled to Lagos to play FC Robo with only one Jersey & no away jersey. Guess what, at the prematch meeting, their home jerseys clashed with the home team & no jersey to wear. 😭 They tried to get any jersey at the market but couldn't meet up & they were walked over.

Opposition parties in the National Assembly are just playing kindergarten games. 2: They are deceiving people that they can do magic. 3: Numbers dey lie 4: When the party was wooing other members to defect to APC, Una dey sleep that time. 5: How many times opposition leaders dey interface and protect their members so as to wade off APC? 6: EMOTIONS cannot win MAJORITY VOTES.

Hon. Isa Ali Pantami has every right to contest for office, just like any other Nigerian. Likewise, the public has every right to criticize him and assess him based on his past utterances before entering politics. He can no longer hide under the umbrella of religion to shield himself from criticism. He will be treated like every other politician in this country. Praise him when he performs well, and criticize him when he falls short.

Our Governors are wasteful and wicked! This is Oyo state cultural centre that has been left in ruins! This is one-of the places any tourist will want to visit in Ibadan but has been left to waste. The structure is cleverly built into the hill so you don't really see much of it from the top, but the back? Stunning. Governor Makinde chose to spent 50B to renovate governor house but left this to waste. Who did we offend as a people????

Surprising how everyone is writing Man United off the title race. Like, how?? Arsenal are above Manchester United by 15 points with 16 games left. You can only rule United out when Arsenal have played 34 games and still have a 15point gap with just 4 games to go. For now, with Carrick, don’t write United off yet. After Sunday’s game, it’ll be 12 points. Everybody relax 😌
