Look I can make the legal case as to why VAR Guidelines do not support revising a yellow against Argentina and turning it into a yellow for Switzerland instead. I can. But the key issue here is I’ve seen Argentineans dive in other matches and get no card or VAR check at all

This is the closest thing to a Dred Scott era decision I've seen from the SCOTUS in my lifetime. Even 2 Trump appointees and a Clinton appointee unanimously found intentional racial discrimination in the 2023 Alabama map, yet the majority of SCOTUS by 6-3 moved the goalposts and dramatically narrowed protections Congress enacted through the Voting Rights Act, and reaffirmed over and over, since it was originally enacted. If there's a fix, it has to come from Congress. That's why 2026 and 2028 matter so much. Vote accordingly! nytimes.com/2026/06/02/us/…

This is truly one of the worst things the court has done — both in terms of legitimacy and in terms of the law — since I have been covering the court.
Chris “Law Dork” Geidner@chrisgeidner

BREAKING: In an unsigned, per curiam opinion on the shadow docket, the SCOTUS conservatives allow Alabama to use a congressional map held repeatedly by a lower court to have been enacted with discriminatory intent.

This sounds nice, but it's a great way to undermine the welfare state. The strongest welfare states in the world (the Nordics) tax everyone, including nurses. And they give everyone universal healthcare, childcare, pensions, education in return. When the middle class has skin in the game, they defend the system. When welfare is 'just for the poor', it becomes a poor program: stigmatized, underfunded, easy to gut. That's why billionaires keep pushing this idea. The real scandal isn't that this nurse pays $12k. It's that Jeff Bezos pays $0.
Shay Boloor@StockSavvyShay

Jeff Bezos said the bottom half of Americans should pay zero federal income tax. He cited a nurse in Queens making ~$75K and paying ~$12K in taxes saying “we shouldn’t be asking this nurse in Queens to send money to Washington.”

Trump looting almost $2 billion from the government coffers to pay his supporters is one of the largest scandals in US history. But our press is so beaten down and the public has become so fatigued by his constant criminality that it's barely a news story.

Alabama. Georgia. Louisiana. Tennessee. Your fight is our fight. If you're not from these states, it's time to pull up. We are bound together. It was 300 congregants at Ebenezer who changed the world in the 1960s. We can make a new world together today.

AOC: “It is time for the North to pull up to the South and let them know exactly what they have uncorked with this injustice. They think they can draw us out of power. They do not know the sleeping giant they just awakened. What they thought was the final blow is actually just the opening silo”

AOC: “MAGA is the last dying breath of the confederacy. In response to a confederacy, we have this moment here of liberation, abolition, and revival of the values that make this country actually great. We have every freedom that we have today because somebody in each generation refused to accept the world as it was”

Eric M Garcia: I know you said your ambitions are higher than any singular office, but you were in Georgia last week and you’re going to Pennsylvania this weekend. It does kind of look like you’re testing the waters. Why are you going to these states? AOC: I think that with the striking down of the Voting Rights Act, we are all being called to do everything that we can in this moment. I think this is an all-hands-on-deck situation. All of us need to be everywhere. I think it’s important to lead by example.

I know we like to pinpoint to Nixon, Bush, and Reagan for the issues of the country. Unfortunately, our issues also stem back to the fall of Reconstruction with the Compromise of 1877 and not sentencing members of the Confederacy to death after the Civil War ended.
