There is nothing like the bunkering in the Melbourne Sandbelt. And Victoria Golf Club may have the best of em. Cut right into greens, they are aesthetically gorgeous, but also truly affect the play. No fringe or rough to save you. On these firm greens, you simply must control spin or play it very safe. You truly can putt into a bunker if not careful. (You probably will chip into one.) Combined with fast, bouncy greens and fairways, you have to think deep about your shot and execute. It’s not unusual to need to land a shot short of the green to have a chance. It requires the perfect sand and the perfect climate to do this consistently. And of course the great men and women of turf!

A highlight of my Florida trip was a dinner with overseas members of Nairn and Royal Dornoch. Just the best people you could meet. Two amazing places that everyone should visit on their Scotland trip. Nairn still has a few overseas membership spots…I expect in 10 years it will be impossible to join like Royal Dornoch and North Berwick are today. Cannot wait to get back to the Highlands.
