@SandyofSuffolk @onebiggins Ah yes, Sandy, the retired Suffolk automotive engineer who understands the fundamentals of electric vs combustion cars. It's funny how electric cars are somehow against your political grift as if they have an opinion

Shocking story today from Christopher Biggins @onebiggins when his electric Fiat car just stopped with no warning on a busy road. And whatever caused the electric car to suddenly stop also rendered him unable to leave the vehicle as the doors and windows wouldn't open. The car was fully charged that morning and Fiat have no explanation. Biggins 'phoned the RAC who said it could take 6 hours to attend even after he explained he was an elderly gentleman who needed his medication which was at home. The police refused to attend despite the danger posed by the Fiat being immobile in the middle of a busy road with traffic thundering past. Eventually and after a traumatic wait in the vehicle, the car door finally opened and Biggins managed to walk free unharmed. Biggins is now looking to get rid of his electric car. And I don't blame him one bit. What a dreadful experience. 😱

@AutoPap My MG5 does the same thing. Lane keep, steering and acceleration/braking down to 0mph. It's good once you get used to it.

Found out during my 180 mile drive today that the Renault has a self drive mode. The car steers itself on the motorway 😧 Very unnerving and probably illegal to engage at the moment?

This discourse is going to kill me. The entire world, including Andy Weir, cannot wrap their heads around the truth that- A. Star Trek has always been very progressive and political and that’s a key part of its identity. B. Modern trek is mostly very stupid and bad and it’s not because its politics have shifted.

@AutoPap 28 (can't afford it). I love it, think it's far less fussy than current models and channels some 90s simplicity in the body lines. Absolutely cannot afford one at 1k a month though, with our mortgage its about £150 a month on a car tops. Cost of living is mental mate.

Anyone who's my age will probably look at this and wince. However we're not the demographic BMW are appealing to anymore. Do the younger people on here like it?

The UK cannot maintain any strategic autonomy without local data centres. It can't attract data centres without dedicated, affordable electricity. Its best shot at that by far is nuclear power. But affordable nuclear requires vast reform of nuclear regulation. Which the govt is now doing. So IMO implementation of the 'Fingleton Review' a sleeper candidate for the most important thing this government is involved in, and peculiarly, the one most essential to medium-term national defence. In the end it may all be too little too late, but we certainly shouldn't resign ourselves to that. (I also think we also need to shell out for a truly independent nuclear deterrent like France has. Not sure if renewing nuclear power in the country helps with that, but plausibly it does. And we also need some actual economic growth to fund all this, which a cheap nuclear renaissance would surely assist with.)
Freddie Poser@freddie_poser

BIG nuclear news: today the Government has released its plans to implement @JohnFingleton1’s landmark nuclear review. The headline: ‘Building our Nuclear Nation’ is very good news for British nuclear, implementing almost all of the transformational recommendations, but not quite everything. The Government has committed to almost every recommendation and outlined a detailed plan to implement them. The Government says it will fix the outdated radiation rules, revise effective ban on SMRs across swathes of the country, set up a nuclear regulatory commission and more! Last year @BritishProgress launched our Nuclear Taskforce Tracker - today is the first HUGE update. nuclear.britishprogress.org/?new=true

@DBraddish We were impressive in the comeback (for once) but we shouldn't have been in that place in the first place because of some seriously braindead decisions. We were 3-2 with 30 seconds, yes it was a mess in the box but its not a penalty and the ref has ultimately made the wrong call.

@monkeyboy21714 Players also to blame, you have to manage the game better in the last 5 minutes there for me. Take the ball to the corner flag, instead we’ve got Hirst shooting from a stupid angle!
