Did you really want Mark Carney to call a snap election? Let’s take our chances in 2029 when there are 500,000 less Baby Boomers. Hold fast.

Good morning, well-informed National Post readers. The Liberals have a majority. How will this improve Canada?

@chrispronger Chris if it isn't Makar, I'm taking you for best defenceman over anyone else on that list and you're retired. 😀 I grew up watching Ray Bourque. On that basis, everyone else on that list is lacking.

@MacLeodLisa It's already over with respect to keeping Alberta in Canada. You can bookmark this right now. I'm not wrong.

@michaeltaube I'm of the opinion that all recent activity has done is...virtually guarantee Alberta leaves. It'll be accelerated now. Book it. If you were them, would YOU stay, knowing what awaits? Hell No. Smith will get on board, or die politically. She's not that dumb though.

@kinsellawarren The Liberals are like Texas weather. If you dont like their policies or their "team" wait 10 minutes. They'll gladly change (or work hard to tell you they'll change) to try to get your vote or stay in power.

Reflects poorly on both. Gladu for obvious reasons. But if ever one needed proof that Liberal principles are first and foremost about the acquisition of power and not a coherent set of values and perspectives, it's accepting an unapologetic conservative like Gladu into caucus
Mark Carney@MarkJCarney

At this important moment for our country’s future, Canadians with a broad range of experience and perspectives are uniting to build Canada strong. I am honoured to welcome Marilyn Gladu today as the newest member of this government and our Liberal caucus. In a time of global economic uncertainty, Canada’s success will depend on how we build ambition into progress and strengths into sustained advantage. Marilyn brings the practical, results-driven leadership this effort demands. Having spent decades of her career in engineering and international business, she understands what it takes to create good jobs, strengthen supply chains, and ensure Canadian industry can compete in a rapidly changing global economy. She has been elected by the people of Sarnia—Lambton–Bkejwanong in four straight elections since 2015, and repeatedly earned recognition from colleagues across Parliament for her proven willingness to work constructively across party lines. I’m looking forward to working closely with Marilyn to build a stronger and more independent Canadian economy, meeting the challenges of a changing world with lasting opportunities for all.

@lamphieryeg Here's the most significant question- HOW WILL YOU ACQUIRE THE LAND NEEDED FOR A 2ND TRACK? Don't say you'll buy it, or expropriate it. Not gonna happen. Not within 15 years you won't, if at all, and not at less than market value. Deal breaker. Again, if you cant plant trees...

So what's the project ROI? Annual ridership? Average ticket price? Annual interest costs? Projected breakeven cost? We'll wait .... 😉
fiftythree@fiftyth20831725

@JPAndrew3 @lamphieryeg But if you could do TO to Montreal in 3 hours via train (which true HSR could achieve) - that would obviously be a tremendously attractive option, that would be very popular, and I think one can easily argue that it also offers large economic benefits.

@terrynewman I'm old enough to remember when the Democrats hid Joe Biden for over 60 days when he was RUNNING for president, not when he was the incumbent. Gee, I wonder why. Interviews would be a bad idea don't ya think, when you don't want insight into what you are.

A press outlet suggesting that doing interviews is bad is more than a tad self-undermining. Heaven forbid more information be out there.

Doug Ford seems to be encouraging all of his Ontario Conservative supporters to support Mark Carney going forward. This seems highly suspicious like something I have never witnessed in my lifetime. Pressed I'll bet Ford would try to deny! My thoughts only!

I was going to say. My wife and I weren't feeling well yesterday and neither of us was up to cooking, so I went to McD's to use some coupons - these terminals are just so complicated. If you take away the time you're in line waiting for a cashier, they're so much slower than just telling someone your order.

@terrynewman Case in point Terry. Anyone remember the Mike Duffy affair? Couldn't turn on a TV for weeks without seeing Graham Richardson running stories about 90K!!!! (not even tax payer money btw). Contrast that to today. Lib scandals START at at least 900 million, and you never hear boo.

@lamphieryeg Here's the simple truth, and sane people know this: IF that project was financially viable or attractive it would have been built long ago by private industry players. The fact it hasn't, for numerous reasons, gives you the answer.

I don’t think he was gonna get cut, but anyone with a brain cell knew Chicago wanted off that contract. The Bills overpaid and anyone who wants to argue against that has fan goggles on. If they win it all it’ll be worth the overpayment though!
