The 'hiring recession' -- basically no hiring outside of healthcare Affordability challenges (an ongoing problem, but rising electricity and food prices aren't helping) Manufacturing struggles due to tariffs Gloomy consumers

Santa Fe, New Mexico. I read somewhere that this city has a higher percentage of professional creatives than any other city in America. Aesthetically, it's a fusion of Mexican and Native American styles, which show up in the design of doors, doorways, pottery, and adobe buildings. Art is infused into everything here. In that way, it's like Florence. Though much more humble.

There are 11, maybe more Sen Dems who have been eager for an off-ramp. This deal would mean NO gains on ACA subsidies, not even (it seems) a guaranteed vote on extending them. Tonight's vote will not seal the shutdown deal - but if it passes, will be hard to reverse.
