Hear this out, schools should incorporate military style PT from a young age, and the US should have compulsory service for 2 years after high school, the majority of it being basics of military discipline, safe handling of firearms, and fitness. While their work would be mostly civil improvement projects.
I say this because it would pump out 20 year olds who have disipline and healthy bodies and as well as being a uniting factor for every American to share.

Andy Weir never talked about the conversations the Eridans had when Grace arrived. All we know Rocky (and Adrian) are nice and that is our only thing to base Eridans off of. We don't know about the evils of the Eridian species. The ones who feared Grace and wanted him killed, or the ones that wanted to dissect him, etc. You're gauging the entire behavior of every Eridian off of 2 aliens who were good compared to the billions of humans that existed throughout history who were a mix of good and bad.
Also, if humanity came together to build an interstellar spaceship with very few hiccups. They would 100% be able to agree on keeping the alien that saved their planet alive and eventually send him home.
