@cbokhove @PeteroUPC @coltencollings The publisher has chosen to keep that portion if their portfolio that way - there are the designers at Engelmann Becker and there is the publisher

@PeteroUPC @coltencollings @MrZachG Zach, do you know why even the original distar still seems prohibitively expensive?

The example of the student who does the volleyball unit every year and never learns to serve ... I find that powerful. That is a clear sign that PE is not being used to teach in the same way as we expect any other subject. Mr. Robinson's a smart guy!

@MrZachG Yes, and putting a ‘hands on’ piece up front makes the lesson take twice as long and keeps the students out of the deeper water they could have otherwise reached.

@MrLandesman @MrZachG @GTavernetti Wish I could’ve been there! But will be present at ResearchEd Houston!

I’ll admit, I’ve often taken a dim view of PE. At its worst, it's often just games and activities that don’t build toward much. So I was genuinely curious to sit down with Ste Robinson - PE teacher extraordinaire - to talk about how to rethink PE.

@LifespanDevelop @MrZachG One voice that is at least consistently on topic with this is Doug Carnine.
Do you know his work? aei.org/events/from-re…

What John is talking about is the assumption that the learner cannot understand, or will have trouble understanding, abstract mathematical concepts without first being taught with concrete materials. We do not know that, and these papers point in the opposite direction.

Education research is weak and sloppy. Why? We all quickly condemned Units of Study, and Fountas and Pinnell, but what is happening in math is even worse. open.substack.com/pub/theargumen…

Happiness is meeting @natwexler at researchED NYC and bigger happiness is when she mentions your substack piece in her talk.

Because television, to the extent that it can be educational, should include language and important themes that help kids notice and understand the world around them. See: Daniel Tiger.

@MrZachG The "you're doing it wrong" is even coming from advocates of traditional methods, whose criticisms range from "I don't accept you not doing cold calling" to "If you don't use MWB's or turn and talk you're failing your Ss" etc. The coaching industry meanwhile is flourishing.

@rpondiscio Always happy to be the guy who says what everyone else was thinking
English

@MrZachG 100%. Should the fact that you're saying this the day after ResearchEd concern me?
