ok i’m done being normal irish is more phonetically consistent than english. there are 36 consonants and 10 vowels. you look at “saoirse” and shudder when if you took 30 mins to learn the ALPHABET you would get it “absolute bullshit” = SKILL ISSUE!
🔎Al🔍@SweatieAngle

Irish spelling vs pronunciation is always such absolute bullshit you can really tell it’s supposed to be written out using, like, potato runes and they just sorta threw the Latin alphabet stuff together an afterthought. Sidhe pronounced ‘she’ get the fuck outta here

I disagree with Timothee Chalamet about opera (crowd cheers), because all art is essentially bad (crowd boos), in the Culture Industry sense! (crowd cheers) except for one medium, which encompasses all previous forms (crowd nodding expectantly), “gaming” (booing intensifies)

I had professors tell me to my face that I should contort my research in order to get funding from a natsec think tank or the State Department but I'm guessing that practice is not going to get a breathless exposé from The Atlantic
Tyler Austin Harper@Tyler_A_Harper

I spoke with professors who admitted to contorting their work, faking an interest in racial justice in order to win Mellon bucks. They needed grants to support their research (or get promoted) and they had to choose between progressive play-acting or going without key funding. 6/

So you were fine with the slaughter of disabled people under Biden then too? The dissolution of public health? Granting more funding and recruitment of ICE and police? As long as it was a democrat in office and you got to go to brunch?
rso@Rsalasor

@Imani_Barbarin I live here. In this country. I know what I experience under one administration and under another. I can compare and contrast and I can tell you that the difference is gigantic. You can ask most sane Americans ( not MAGA) this same question and would answer same thing I am.

Hey I’m endorsing @MalloryMcMorrow today for US Senate in Michigan. I’ve worked with her for years to keep our kids safe from gun violence. I’ve seen her fight up close - and it’s exactly what we need right now to take on Trump and his corporate allies.

As advanced as AI seems, there's something anti-intellectual about it. It treats thinking as an obstacle on the path to "the answer." But for the intellectual, thinking isn't a means to an end. It's the thing itself. No wonder so many thoughtful people hate it.

The historical record is very clear that, on the one hand, structural injustice is only ended by seriously disuptive protests and, on the other hand, elected officials will turn to repressing protests when they become seriously disruptive.

But to anyone who causes property damage or puts others in danger: you will be arrested. We are standing up to Donald Trump’s chaos not with our own brand of chaos, but with care and unity.

I deflate each time I see a Leftist activist or academic "admit" that yes, "woke culture" did go "too far" in this or that historical moment. "Woke culture" is not a thing that actually exists. It is a slur/motivated analytic. You look small-brained when you act like It Lives!

The desire to make and participate in art is a very basic human impulse and I think it is a mistake to discount it as inherently frivolous largely in an effort to convey some kind of holier than thou political asceticism.

I think this has been a useful exercise if for no other reason than that it has revealed the deep contempt neoliberals have for anyone who is deeply rooted in their community and whose dreams do not fit their vision of corporate efficiency and growth at all costs.

What does Abundance offer someone whose dream is moving back to his home town to open an Appalachian folk music venue & convince his high school sweetheart who works at the nearby diner to fall in love with him and stay instead of taking a job that matches her degree in the city?
