@dick_nixon how do you handicap Philadelphia’s prospects this year, sir?
English

Hungarian opposition leader Péter Magyar, calling Orbán and his circle a mafia, stated that if he gains a constitutional majority, the heads of the Supreme Court and Constitutional Court, the State Audit Office, the competition authority, and the prosecutor general will be removed.
According to him, they failed to fulfill their constitutional duties and instead placed political loyalty to Orbán above the law.
Over years of prolonged dominance in Hungarian politics, Orbán has rewritten the constitution, redrawn electoral districts, and appointed loyalists to key positions, creating a model of “illiberal democracy” that he presents to nationalist allies in Europe and beyond as a system resistant to electoral defeat.
Magyar promised to return Hungary to the European political mainstream and to loosen ties with Russia.
“Viktor Orbán does not represent the interests of Hungary, the European Union, or NATO, but rather the interests of a third country,” Magyar said, clearly referring to Russia.

@Birdyword @DavidAFrench That exact quote caught my ear. Great interview.

GEN. MATTIS: “.. Iran right now, if we declared victory, they would now say they own the strait. .. You’d see a tax for every ship that goes through. .. We’re in a tough spot, ladies and gentlemen. .. I can’t identify a lot of options.” @politico politico.com/news/2026/03/2…

@mrfriebe Society has sort of made the choice about the value of college by sending more people to it. And the funny thing about the kids is one way or another they always figure it out. -OS
English

We graduated from college >20 years ago with $50k in debt and paid it off in less than a decade. $50K isn't that much more than a car note. And has a lower interest rate and monthly payment. And if you actually learned something, your education isn't a depreciating asset. -OS
middleclassparty@middle_class_us
College was sold as a ticket to the middle class. Now it’s a $50,000 chain around your neck. Degrees don’t buy houses anymore. They barely cover rent.
English

@lyndonbajohnson Long story short, i worry abt the kids. Not in favor of wiping the debt wholesale but think in many cases they’re unfairly encouraged to incur it. Soceiety needs to think more abt the value prop of ‘college’ at any price relative to trades as Europe does. End of rant!
English

@mrfriebe Depends. Numbers also don't lie that on average you hit your earnings ceiling much earlier in life than with a college degree and that your life time earnings are far lower too. Its the tortoise and the hare. Trades start faster. College wins in the long run. -OS
English

@lyndonbajohnson Fair. I do wonder if this is changing and what impact AI will have (no clue).
English

@lyndonbajohnson On the private angle - a choice, yea. NY maybe an outlier. Not many good public options except the exceptional schools like styuvesant, brooklyn tech, admission knife fights. Otherwise a good public option out of reach for the majority
English

@mrfriebe Private school is a choice and has never been cheap. We went to private universities where most things were on scholarship, but not books, or lab fees, or housing. -OS
English

@lyndonbajohnson All fair, and i’m no communist but it seems like the college lottery ticket value has declined substantially of late particularly vis a vis the trades and i think ppl waking up to that. They ain’t wrong.
English

@mrfriebe And the conversation gets overly general. Most people cranking up $250K in student loans aren't just borrowing for undergrad. Its for med school, or law school in addition to undergrad. -OS
