1- Catering to player “B” , im absolutely sure that no cancel = complaining about being “locked in” at odds they no longer like if the odds move against them. What if an important player is ruled out? Even if the news re-prices the market appropriately, these players are not price sensitive. Rather they’re absolutely sensitive to news/narratives. Offering an escape hatch via a “100% cashout” at any point before game start would be another player friendly benefit, at zero cost (!) to the house 2- Would you not be concerned about sharps / syndicates who dummy the sharp books closing line for the purpose of getting more money down on the derivates (live betting)? If they can do it for live betting they would also be able to do that for this product. Tilting the vig based on betting volume would instead incentivizes sharps to balance the book by taking the “less popular bets” more often - decreasing the house’s volatility too

@mrhindog I like the concept, might be a bit overcomplicated for the intended audience. Not sure why order cancellation or unbalanced vig would be needed to make this work.

To continue this discussion... -110 is too expensive for what B wants. The only reason B has to pay -110, aside from high taxes and licensing costs, is that if you charged B any less, you'd get crushed by A. Ways you could offer B a better deal without risk of exploitation by A: - parimutuel pools with extremely low takeout - variable-odds bets (like variable rate mortgages!) that pay out at whatever the closing line is, with vig greatly reduced.
Plus EV Analytics@PlusEVAnalytics

Sports bettor archetypes: A: "this is a game of skill, and I think I'm skilled enough to win" B: "I want to put a few bucks on my favourite team to make the game more interesting" C: "this is a lottery ticket, I want to lay out a little for a small chance to win a lot" IMO, A and C are very well served by the current set of offerings available in the market. B are the ones getting ripped off.

@PlusEVAnalytics To summarize - variable odds with parimutuel fee structure, transparent and cancellable at any time before game start

Variable odds would be the way to go imo. The market equivalent would be a market-on-open order (in this case the “market” simultaneously opens and closes upon game start). Placing the bet would debit your account, show a live payout estimation based on the current market price (e.g. if the game were to start now), and be cancellable at any point leading up to the start time. Say the fee/vig is set to -104/-104, I think it would make sense to tilt the vig based on how one sided the volume is. The purpose is to discourage syndicate activity and encourage balancing volume on both sides while still always being able to promote “reduced juice” —> a bet always better than -110. The worst case scenario is 100% betting volume on one side leading to +100/-108 odds. Thoughts?

@schizovigilante @AgentSamM @ScadMeta @MLBNetwork if winning / not winning a World Series is the only metric then isn’t the 1 year rental of soto also worthless? Padres have a much stronger 2025 roster as a result of this trade while the Yankees have nothing to show.

Michael King is set to face the Yankees for the first time since being traded to the Padres in the Juan Soto deal in December of 2023. Thoughts on this trade 17 months later?

🚨 Tim Sweeney on Fortnite’s place in the coming metaverse Key takeaways from his chat with Lex Fridman (Podcast #467) Fortnite as the metaverse test-bed • Fortnite now pays creators a share of item-shop revenue based on where players spend time. Payouts have already topped ≈ $400 million • Sweeney’s long-term goal: publish a game once, run it as a Fortnite island or a standalone title, both tied into the same cosmetic economy Open, connected worlds • Vision: open standards so skins and items can travel between Fortnite, Roblox, Call of Duty and any future platform. A “federated” metaverse that no single company controls • Epic’s antitrust fights (cross-play with Sony, lawsuits vs. Apple & Google) are meant to break app-store gatekeeping and let a billion-user metaverse flourish Tech powering the vision • Nanite geometry + Lumen lighting in Unreal Engine 5 let small teams build film-level visuals, essential for immersive shared worlds • UE6 R&D focuses on massive multi-threaded simulation, better networking and a new high-level language that grows out of Fortnite scripting, tools built for creator scale Opportunities for creators • The item-shop revenue model rewards engaging islands over ad spend or pay-to-win tricks. Build experiences players return to and cosmetics sales will follow. • Interoperable assets mean a skin you design could sell inside Fortnite and other ecosystems once standards are in place, multiplying reach and revenue potential. • Sweeney’s advice: tackle ideas the giants ignore, leverage UE Marketplace assets, finish projects, and you can punch well above your studio size.
