@chicagosmayor I understand staff shortages. They are real and awful. But students and teachers were infected with this virus when they were on break. So now, thanks to CTU, kids are being pulled out of school because of decisions teachers and families made when they weren’t in school.

I want to speak directly to the parents who are worried not just about what’s going to happen tomorrow, but the rest of this week. I want to assure you that I am doing everything in my power to keep our students in school, where they belong, learning. 🧵

@CTULocal1 It’s a lot easier to take you seriously and believe you have the best interest of kids at heart when you start acting like adults and professionals. Begin by modeling respect. A great place to start would be how you use your social media account to put ideas out in to the world.

This is how educators are being treated in this moment. Not a "union boss," but a Black woman, and mother, who is standing with students and families in pushing for safety. The mayor's rhetoric encourages this, instead of her and her CPS team working with educators for safety.

My daughter decided, as a gift to my husband, would give to someone who needs it more than he does. She thinks very deeply about the people we see asking for money and food. She purchased items with her own money and asked for donations. So far 27 bags made and more to come!

Having kids read at night is presumably better than assigning worksheets, but I've lost count of the number of parents who have told me,"My child used to love reading until the teacher started requiring kids to read x minutes every night. Now it's become a chore"
