Here’s something I love: When central office staff remember what it’s like to work in a school... And principals remember what it’s like to be a teacher... And teachers remember what it’s like to be a student. And we all remember that it’s about the kids.

To the people who say it’s all about the kids. Just remember the kids learn in an environment created by the teacher. A teacher who is supported, encouraged and appreciated will create a more positive and dynamic learning environment than a teacher who is not supported that way.

Things that matter about a teacher: 1) Do they know their stuff? 2) Do they like kids? 3) Do they roll with the punches? 4) Are they having fun up there? 5) Are they trying new things? . . . 99) How are they dressed?

Don’t underestimate the value of camaraderie. And don’t wait for someone to be a great colleague to you. It’s always a good day to be a great colleague to someone else.

Being pleasant and having a good attitude is a simple way to become luckier. Opportunities come through people, and people are more likely to bring opportunities to people they like. It’s hard to win if your attitude adds friction to every interpersonal experience.
