Even with the limited space, Civics students get to cast their ballots from Student Votes to mimic what is happening across Ontario today.

The Heart Garden was specifically created by them as a project for honouring residential school survivors - typically in May/June. Honouring Memories, Planting Dreams: happens more than on a single day or one month; our goal is to keep the garden growing for constant reflections

Ms. Galian and I both brought in Indigenous voices into our classrooms to have students learn about honouring residential school survivors. From the Civics perspective, I recommend checking out the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada’s resources.

For National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, my Civics class with the Green Industries class made a Heart Garden. Students learned about native plants, caring for the Earth, and the needed continuous actions of allies to make a difference We hope to grow the garden every year!

Will definitely need to make a trip and giddily find my name in the Hockey Hall of Fame!

It’s great to see parents connecting to support their child’s education! It’s even better if they double check if I’m even teaching their child this semester 😅

Fifteen years ago today, Jordan’s Principle was unanimously passed in the House of Commons. The child-first principle, named in loving memory of Jordan River Anderson, was passed to ensure that all First Nations children in Canada have the supports they need in order to thrive.
