@dillon_mulroy why custom tooling rather than just making them disable-model-invocation to turn them into slash commands?

i think skills are a mistake and the wrong abstraction. i almost never want my agent auto invoking them and i have built custom tooling to "toggle" them on/off to prevent them from always being present in my context window.

We want to move the Cursor CLI to use ASB/AltScreenBuffer to make ~everything feel a lot better. I know CC seems to have shied away and Codex doesn't use it, but it seems a massive improvement. Convince me not to do this

@msfeldstein It does not. Pi is super barebones out of the box (it doesn’t even support mcp!) I feel like using the cursor sdk is probably the right answer since I’m using cursor under enterprise so I’m not under a subscription. I probably just gotta convince my admin to let me make api keys

Forked the most popular cursor provider pi extension today because it still somehow didn’t support gpt-5.5 or opus 4.7 yet. But I do get why supporting it kinda sucks. It’s doing a lot of work to emulate Cursors client protocol via gRPC. @msfeldstein does this violate TOS? If so, what’s the alternative? As far as I can tell, my options are: 1. Wrap cursor cli to do headless prompting and lose out on image support. 2. Wrap the cursor sdk, but lose oauth login support and be forced to use an api key. 3. Do a bunch of work to get pi to support acp.

@msfeldstein i'm not familiar with ink, but as someone who has written terminal UIs since ~'01, i find it strange that a termanal library did not have ASB support from day 1 That's literally the definition of TUI in my mind, if it's not asb, its a CLI

@_ChrisCovington OpenTUI is really great, but ink 7 just released asb support and would be nice to not have to do a full rewrite

@mazdak Seems like you have to reimplement text selection, most of the asb-havers it looks like you select text and then it just copies automatically, which is odd but fine? Paste works like normal

Are there any actual success stories for "software factories" like gastown? Anything I can see running, and preferably see code?

@kenwheeler "hillclimb/autoresearch making the app open faster" and it will hypothesize and come up with a couple dozen ideas to look into, try them all, and have PRs with metrics about improvements i can review in the morning

i’m curious what you guys actually have agents build 24/7. i don’t have that many plans. is it just the dumbest shit ever? do you stop and think for a while about something to build?

@msfeldstein There are quite a few that are common. Driving a car from the back seat is one.
