Laying in bed that night, I just randomly blurt out, "What are you doing in your personal life where what your piss smells like is important, R. Kelly?" Hours had passed, and if I had this bag of bile's number, I would have called him and shouted it. It's been over a decade, and now I'm motivated to find this troglodyte and tell him. I say this and realize I'm mentally George Costanza, but I'm entirely unbothered by it.

I hope you’re proud of what you’ve done. You’ve disenfranchised Predominantly African-Americans districts in Belle Glade, Pahokee, South Bay, and Riviera Beach—taking predominantly Black communities and diluting their representation. Giving them MAGA representation knowing they will not get any support or resources. I don’t know how you sleep at night. History has seen this playbook before, and it’s never aged well. You may be fixated on tearing us down, but we’ve seen your kind before. Every attempt to silence us only makes us stronger.

This scenic description of Florida beaches versus California beaches truly encapsulates what DeSantis has done for Florida and it’s an underrated aspect of his direction for the state. Floridians take for granted what could and probably would have happened if Andrew Gillum had won the election in 2018. The state of Florida would have slipped into a mirror image of California with sanctuary cities and accepted homelessness in the streets and rampant crime. Gillum would have leaned into what Gavin Newsom does in California and would have listened to him for advice in how to set policy in Florida. Bottom line, we wouldn’t have the Florida we have today. As we enter the last six months of DeSantis’ tenure as governor, be mindful of that, be grateful, and be cognizant of what effective governance does for a community, both on a smaller scale and broader spectrum.

Dreamers are our healthcare workers, teachers, and neighbors. They have been here since they were children and have built their lives here. This is, unsurprisingly, a heartless betrayal of our nation’s values. Dreamers deserve better than this.
