Ken Howells, Rovers’ chaplain, read an adaptation of this at my friend’s funeral today. I’d never heard it before.

Lung cancer is a leading cause of cancer deaths for women under 50, many of them fit, lively and seemingly healthy. Many don’t smoke and never have. Only breast cancer claims more lives in this age group. Lung cancer can affect anyone - people #LikeMe bit.ly/2VAb0FX

I’m working in a hospital that currently has a Department of Kindness & a Gratitude Table. It also has the highest % of smiling,helpful staff I’ve encountered anywhere &a positive work environment.Made me wonder what novel ideas other hospitals have?#antiburnout @NorthBristolNHS

Only 72.6% of #lungcancer patients get treated within the current 62-day national cancer waiting time standard. Read our report ‘Millimetres Matter’ on how to help drive improvements in standards of care and improve outcomes for patients: uklcc.org.uk/our-reports/

We all carry wounds from our work: finding ways to accommodate distress without losing compassion is a constant challenge in health care. We're as human and vulnerable as our patients. It's our strength and our anchor, but we pay a price in our hearts. @thosewecarry
Nicola Davis@DrNicolaDavis

This chapter from @drkathrynmannix brought back difficult memories of a sudden traumatic death I witnessed at work. Completely agree with these wise words she finishes with. We must take care of ourselves so we can take care of others.

Last week I made 3 patients cry by looking them in the eye and saying "I believe you" when they told me they were having trouble breathing. I'm a little shaken by how grateful they were to be heard and believed. Powerful words that shouldn't be that powerful.

'Burnout can present by eroding a physician’s compassion, professionalism and sense of calling, which translates to worse performance at work and poor patient care.' Important article in the @BMJ this week points to #SchwartzRounds. See our guide and film: pointofcarefoundation.org.uk/evidence/schwa…
The BMJ@bmj_latest

If we don’t look after ourselves then we will be no good at looking after our patients. We must remember to put on our own oxygen masks first, says this #BMJOpinion on the #WoundedHealer conference blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2018/10/23… @NHSPracHealth

1/4 Things I have learnt supporting someone close to & at the end of their life.. It is the human interaction that makes the biggest difference; the tone, the manner, the touch on the shoulder, all leave a lasting impact ;
