We all carry wounds from our work: finding ways to accommodate distress without losing compassion is a constant challenge in health care. We're as human and vulnerable as our patients. It's our strength and our anchor, but we pay a price in our hearts. @thosewecarry

Last week I made 3 patients cry by looking them in the eye and saying "I believe you" when they told me they were having trouble breathing. I'm a little shaken by how grateful they were to be heard and believed. Powerful words that shouldn't be that powerful.
