The best thing I've done in months is hop on my fatbike and ride until I got tired the other night. Now that's livin'. Thanks @drdagly for the inspiration.

Overall I am left far more empathetic to parents who have talked about what a hard thing it is to go through.

The one satisfying thing about our process is that my kid did get into the school that was probably the best fit. I feel both grateful and humble that they were able to see that. It could have easily gone the other way.

College applications: what an experience to go through, as a parent. I used to hear people go on and on about what misery that is, and I thought "how bad can it be?" Pretty bad! I'm still feeling shell shocked, and we had a happy ending. Most don't. Not with the ivy/subivy.

Every time LLM tries to use port 8000 instead of 8001, which we always use [and is a mistake I see nearly every day], I realize THAT is how easy it is for them to get a variable name wrong. Just 1 char off. Just, that, easy.

When you have to ask an LLM agent "are you joking?" you know that at least for now, humans *might* still be needed.

Yeah I've moved to something very similar! I'm still surprised how often they go against my rules MD though, things as unecessary as restarting front or backend when both have hot reload on. And even Opus 4.5 fails to consider the entire system at times, like applying an inline style when I have a complete token system that must be used or you break things elsewhere! Argghh. Still, would I rather be doing this all alone? No, way. 😃

@mspanish I try not to ever let it fix things without first describing root cause, why it used to work and how it doesn't, and explicitly explaining to me why any proposed new workaround is necessary. It's getting to the point much faster now.

LLMs in vscode are constantly adding hacky overrides instead of actually fixing functionality. And by the time you figure out that is what they've done, there are so many loc that refactoring would nearly kill you. And the hacks mostly work. Still, not great.

Wow - tough CSS vars issue that Opus 4.5, Sonnet, Gem 3, and Codex 5.2 could not solve.... guess who came in and got it done in 10 minutes? Grok. (!) @ibab

Just ordered autistic Barbie. I read some fully verbal, autistic, woman complaining about how terrible these are. That's NUTS. For nonverbal kids like my vibrant daughter - this Barbie is the coolest thing ever. It has a "talker" in her hand, just like my daughter does.

Two alien disclosure scenarios: 1 - Alien life announced. Chaos. Markets crash. Shelves empty. Society melts down overnight. 2 - Alien life announced. No impact on daily life. People shrug, meme it, and still go to work the next morning. Which one sounds more likely?

@chriswallace @ryancarson Would be a lovely position to be in! But if your biggest successes are in still in front of you, that's tough. I feel a little guilty when I'm not running an agent on a 2nd machine all day...

@ryancarson I think the better option is to only run agents two hours a day. Use the rest of your time to learn, strategize, and enjoy your life. I find that the two hours of focused time makes me focus on tight cycles that ship fixes without changing too much too quickly.

I’m starting to develop bad FOMO if my agents aren’t running 24x7. It feels like the opportunity cost is extreme. It’s like you have a team of 100 engineers just sitting there because you haven’t given them work to do. Not a great feeling actually. And I’m feeling this even after shipping a feature on a Saturday. Anyone else experiencing this?

@donvito Phenomenal for about 48 hours when 3 Pro dropped. Reworked a 10 year old app, Backbone to Svelte, in a single eye opening session. After that, the slide was fast and irreversible. I have not used it since, and stopped paying the $150 a month.
