A suspected fake JMPD officer has been arrested in the Johannesburg CBD after allegedly extorting motorists and pedestrians. The foreign national, believed to be Zimbabwean, posed as a metro cop-stopping drivers and demanding cash “spot fines.” He was caught in a targeted JMPD operation while allegedly soliciting a bribe. Officers seized a fake uniform, reflective vest, and cash believed to be proceeds of the scam. Authorities warn the public that real officers do not accept cash on the roadside. The suspect faces charges of impersonating a peace officer and extortion.

Residents of Mahube Valley, today we identified a spaza shop run by foreign nationals that was illegally built on a municipal sewer line. In addition, all trading certificates found on site were fraudulent. We’ve shutdown the spaza shop, and removed all the signage to prevent this shop from operating. The identification of this spaza shop formed part of our #ReASpana service delivery operation. @CityTshwane

SANDF troops under Operation CORONA in Limpopo seized two high-value vehicles and illicit cigarettes during border patrols on 16 April 2026. Soldiers confiscated a Nissan Navara and a Toyota Prado V8 worth over R1.7 million combined, pursuing suspects who fled into the Limpopo River before abandoning the vehicle. They also seized Swan Menthol cigarettes worth about R939,000. SAPS and intelligence services took over for further investigation, with commanders praising the troops’ efforts. @_SANDF_
