@weequipped We did the opposite — we moved to be near both sets of our parents who happened to live in the same city. Our kiddos spend so much time with them. Magical. And keeps us sane. The nuclear family was a dumb idea.

@cshperspectives “The government should buy everyone my product and then let them trade or resell it.” I agree 100%, except it should be *my* product not Sam’s 🤣

Are publishers monitoring these sorts of "Call for Co-author" groups on Facebook? What do you do about this sort of manipulation and dishonesty when someone gets added as author for being able to cover the APC?

@acochran12733 If I publish a journal with 3K subscribers worldwide and 200 of them in the UK and EU sign TAs that means 2800 still prefer subscriptions. Why would I flip the journal to OA? This is tail-wagging-the-dog thinking #UKSG2024

@acochran12733 It depends what is being transitioned. TAs were not designed to transition *journals* to OA. They were designed to transition a given *institution’s* research output to OA #UKSG2024

Jisc: it’s very problematic to call TAs “transitional” after acknowledging that they will take 70 years to transition. #UKSG2024

@lisalibrarian Who could have predicted that rewarding the volume of output would lead to such practices?!

Good breakdown on expenses at one university. I think anytime journal acquisition budgets are discussed, there should be a ratio showing the library budget vs. A. Landscaping, B. Athletic department, C. Highest paid coach, D. President's salary wsj.com/us-news/educat…

Today I heard the claim that a negative citation isn't a sign of use of a scholarly work. I'm puzzled by this. Am I missing something?

Thanks to all who responded to me, some wishing me well, some disagreeing with me, some agreeing, some expressing disappointment, some implying that I have somehow wimped out, one berating me, others asking for the reasons for my decision. I hope the responses below are legible:
