Digitizing Ottoman History: A novel research project has developed a deep learning-based system to automatically transcribe printed Ottoman Turkish documents into modern Turkish. It employs a 260K-word Ottoman-era lexicon, emphasizing the importance of domain-specific vocabulary. Researchers evaluated three decoding strategies, including Word Beam Search, which uses a recognition lexicon and n-gram statistics during the decoding phase.
