Lawyer Mabirizi faces fresh charges after initial ones dismissed.
The lawyer had appeared before court expecting to be released following the Constitutional Court ruling that invalidated Computer Misuse Act #MonitorUpdates monitor.co.ug/uganda/news/na…

@PhillipKarugaba @hanstums 1/ When a Judgement is passed by the Supreme Court or Constitutional Court about a law being inconsistent with the constitution, it is the duty of the legislature and all relevant stakeholders to identify any and all other laws which are inconsistent and amend or delete clauses.

Offences related to "fake news" were killed by the Supreme Court in the Onyango Obbo judgment and the Constitutional Court buried them in the Alternative Digitalk judgment. Prosecuting under void laws is not discretion. It is abuse of process and power. #FreeExpression

Criminalizing speech. With the Computer Misuse (Amendment) Act, 2022 nullification, Ugandan authorities have resorted to equally oppressive, obnoxious and unconstitutional provisions in the Uganda Communications Act to judicially harass outspoken activists like @Mukosearnanth & Male Mabirizi.

UPDATE: The State has withdrawn earlier Computer Misuse charges against lawyer Male Mabirizi, which had accused him of spreading malicious information and promoting hate speech, and instead filed fresh charges. Mabirizi now faces charges of broadcasting without a license and publishing false information about Chief Justice Flavian Zeija. He declined to take plea on the new charges and requested the recusal of Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa at Buganda Road Court. He has been remanded to Luzira Prison until April 15, 2026.

Letter from Tumuhimbise Norman in hiding from Uganda’s military oppressors.
“29th. 03. 2026.
Dear Countrymen,
Following the abduction of my friend Mukose Arnold but most importantly the threats against my life, it’s likely that by the time you find this letter I will be alone in dark and cold basement undergoing torture by our mighty revolutionary and professional UPDF at my worst case scenario OR the fair case scenario I will be on the run in an attempt to prolong my killing by those who will live forever!
But whatever the case I am a strong believer in fate because this world isn’t my home and neither is it to them.
To say; if they kill me at 40 as a result of speaking truth to power, I will have lived 7 years older as compared to our lord Jesus Christ who lived for 33 yrs but still lives with us. If I am killed at 40, I will have lived 7 years longer than Fred Rwigema who was killed at 33 too. If I am killed at 40, I will have lived 5 years longer than Patrice Lumumba who was killed at 35. Should they kill me at 40, still I will have 1 year longer than Martin Luther King whose truth cost his life at 39 years.
For some reason it’s not about our longevity that matters but rather what we leave behind for the time we live before we leave.
As of today I have failed to convince my soul to keep quiet against injustices. But failed.
As a matter of fact Uganda is too big and enough for us to fit and live if it wasn’t for the greedy few. I live you with Rev 21:4 “And do not fear those who kill the body but can not kill the soul”
(Signed)
NORMAN TUMUHIMBISE
