I love you all so much. I will keep telling you I love you over the coming seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years.💖 On Tuesday, tears cascaded down my face as a parent and I talked on the phone and her abject fear came through as she asked, “What do we do?” with regards to her trans child possibly losing access to life-saving gender-affirming care. As I saw another parent later and she looked at me with this haunted gaze, I said, “I know,” which helped us both let the tears flow as we hugged for the first time and she said how scared she is for her queer, racially minoritized daughter. That same daughter, mom, and I processed as the daughter asked if she’s going to have to hide being queer and my heart broke further. Yet we talked through steps to keep her safe and how we’re going to be our queer selves as much as we can. The night of the election as my mom told me how terrifying it is for us to have to do this again, as we discussed the worsened rhetoric compared to last time, and she asked about my safety as a Black, queer person, I thought, “All I want is for my mom to have a calm life.” We processed and I thought, “Hold to this type of unity.” So, I promise you this: none of you is alone as we go through this. I am beside you as we process our anger, rage, sorrow, horror, despair, and the betrayal that is America in far too many ways. We process and survive together. I promise to hold our dreams of a kinder, gentler, more magical society until we’re ready to bring those dreams forth. We dream together. I am here as your Black, queer child and adolescent psychiatrist who works with minoritized kids and will keep doing so because I know I have privileges and safety where I am. We protect our communities together in the ways we can. I cherish you as we learn to embody our authenticity and show that us being our deepest selves is a gift in these times and the times to come. We exist as utterly human together. I’m here as we learn to breathe, to take the time each of us needs individually to heal. We heal together. We do this together. I love you all, you Sailor Warriors of love and justice.🌙💖🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🦄🐦‍🔥🔥🦸🏽‍♂️✊🏽
