@micsolana 1 in 5 people in the world are from these places. So chances that 1 in 5 bad actors are from these places is not the revelation you think it is. You make it sound like if not for these bad actors there won’t be any discord. Wake up.

@amasad If Replit can support Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) that would take the product to the next level.

Hey @grok can you name one (or many) technology innovation that was revolutionary and best of class but did not catch on because the inferior alternatives executed better and grabbed more of the market. Think deeply.

I am thinking I might have to change the Umbrel startup to use the Hiro archive. It is quite flaky though. My last 5 attempts to start a node from archive 3 failed. Even if it worked every time the user experience is very abysmal. User starts a node and they have to hope and pray it is just working in the background for a really long time (since a typical user can’t look at logs to see where the node restore from archive is at). But also restoring from archive seems antithetical to the whole Umbrel experience. Figured if I waited long enough it might resolve itself. Is there a github issue for this that I can track to know when resolved.

@_Checkmatey_ @adam3us @caprioleio The likelihood that the coins are taken by a nation state that is a super power ~100%. Once they take it the likelihood they will just HODL forever is also ~100% IMO.

Why is it untenable? Exchanges will certainly upgrade their wallets, so the claims of Binance and Coinbase being hacked is slim in my opinion. Satoshi/early miner and legacy coins are the only honeypot, and in my view, they just have to be absorbed. Price isn't an issue we should worry about at the consensus code level. Once you break the idea that UTXOs are managed by the private key (which QC technically is obtaining), and can be managed by other people, you lose something that cannot be replaced.

25% of all Bitcoin is vulnerable to Quantum attack (Deloitte). At some point soon the Bitcoin community is going to need to make a very tough decision to effectively burn coins that do not migrate to Quantum proof addresses. Else we will see $Billions (possibly $Trillions) market dumped this decade.

@thestonechat Bolt does not do prod AFAIK. This is it stealing users. This is actually giving people more reason to use Bolt. When you are done with MVP Replit is making it easy to go to prod. It’s not a zero sum game.

@reasonablelab @MMOrpgPrincess @VBierschwale Your assumption about intent is not correct according to USCIS. Whether it is a legitimate business or not and whether the individual has extraordinary ability is up to USCIS to determine. No one cares what my opinion on the matter is.

Unbelievable... Fine. I'll bite. You're studying to test. I'm relatively new to the o1 visa, but I believe the intent is for these visas to go to individuals that are being recruited from outside the US due to their extraordinary abilities. Or perhaps an h1b or F1 visaholder started an *actually* legitimate business that employs many Americans. But if an individual hasn't done anything extraordinary, then sees an online course laying out the steps, then sets up some strange "business" that sort of employs people, or makes a few tweaks to their resume, is this a person that is deserving of an o1? Would you describe this person as being extraordinary? You must see the difference.

@banteringless No. Most Americans are living their peaceful life in the land of the free and home of the brave not giving 2 shits about the highly skilled immigrants coming over here 👐 legally👐

Some of you talk like Indians are plucked off a trade market with price tags around their necks. No, they have a 4-year engineering degree plus 8–10 years of tech experience before even landing in America. They’re skilled contributors, not discount labor. Hawkish policies like a $100k H-1B tax will just push innovation offshore. We already did this with China and handed them the manufacturing industry. Are we REALLY going to make the same mistake with tech?

@boneGPT These asshole employers don't seem to understand that when you force Americans to compete for American tech jobs with poor desperate foreigners, the guaranteed reaction is that Americans divert away from these jobs. H1B CAUSES the "shortage" & the solution is to cancel H1Bs.

Why do you need Indians on cheap visas to work on a Javascript Installer? This is what we're bringing people in the country for? Fucking javascript? They can't write Javascript from Mumbai? Are you out of your fucking mind? This has to stop NOW.

@Kevin9012025 @martianwyrdlord It seems that way because there is just so many of us. Never ending supply meets ever expanding demand. You are being fooled into thinking Indians are gaming the system but we are just following the law. We can’t pretend what an ideal law would be and follow that instead.

OK all these dumb fuck founders seem confused by the problem America is facing with H-1Bs. Let me dumb it WAY the fuck down for you so that maybe, just maybe, even you will be able to understand. Wages as a portion of corporate profits are collapsing. Money left over after paying bills is collapsing. Training of AMERICANS is collapsing. QUALITY OF LIFE is collapsing. And by the way, shut the actual fuck up, none of you are Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, or Sergey Brin. There are 51.9m immigrants in the United States. The average immigrant takes 20 fucking years to match American wages. So STFU until you understand what the fuck you're talking about.
