@SonnyBunch Cortez was a military expert - and used the technology at his means for psychological warfare, successsfully persuading the Aztecs his men were more numerous than they were. He was very successful on this front. Someone has written that "the Aztecs were evil" - very simplistic.

The answer is fairly straightforward: the Aztecs were one of the most evil civilizations in history and the other tribes that lived there were thrilled to help someone overthrow them.

@SCWKorsgaard The atomic bombings were an absolute horror, and I'd be inclined to side with the Manhattan Project scientists who petitioned for the bomb to be demonstrated on an uninhabited island...except for the fact that the Japanese war cabinet really did seem to want to fight to the end.

@MuseZack That's really beautiful. For some reason it reminds me of growing up in London before coming out here - the background noise of the city, the dark streets and the crowded places - that sense of hope and premature melancholy. Wondering if your life was going to mean something.

When I lived in the U.K. as a young journalist, I liked to take the Underground to Heathrow Airport and write my articles longhand in the departure terminal because I found the vibe of people coming and going from every place on Earth to be energizing. Guess I'm low IQ, LOL.
