In the 1950s, the amazing body horror story The Fly, which led to 5 different films, was published in Playboy. They really did have articles and stories and literature back in the day before porn became so accessible Playboy became superfluous.
No I didn't read Playboy. But I sometimes saw the articles and stories. reprinted.

A hugely underrated aspect of the Dune universe's appeal is how Frank Herbert built a world where people zip around the galaxy in spaceships but then fight each other with swords and knives. It makes everything 50 percent cooler than a world of ray guns and robots.

And seemingly nobody saw how comics pivoting from kids to niche adults doomed the medium to a slow death.

So many of the media companies have given up on kids' programming, assuming it's useless to compete with Youtube, TikTok, etc. Which is crazy, because new kids' shows still do monster numbers for them. Netflix couldn't get enough of Camp Cretaceous, for example.

Genuine question, what do kids and tweens watch these days? What’s their High School Musical, Hannah Montana, Cheetah Girls, Wizards of Waverley Place, Camp Rock, Sonny with a Chance, That’s so Raven, Lizzie McGuire,Suite Life,etc? We had so much, and they seemingly have nothing?

With Deathstroke’s sales slumping, DC contacted me and asked me if I would want to take over the comic and what would I do with it? I said, “he’s asked to Hunt LOBO!” Lobo Hunt was born and sales went up. Today, there’s a new Lobo #1 and a new Deathstroke #1. Wishing all involved tremendous success.

The special election in HD-98 today was always safely Republican and shouldn’t be seen as an indicator for the April 21 redistricting referendum. The large swing in tonight’s results is largely due to the unpopular GOP gubernatorial nominee last year.

This is something I’ve come to see a lot of on the Booktok/Bookstagram side of things: glazing the same 5-7 books.
“Hey guys, if you like GoT/Red Rising/Dune/Dungeon Crawler Carl/Suneater/Tolkien, we can be friends”
The variation in those 5-7 books doesn’t budge much. Rarely any surprises to be had and a lot of this comes from the fact that these are the top trending books for algorithmic purposes. The algorithm must be fed.
But it irks me because it leaves genuinely amazing read and indie books from previous years to collect dust when some of them should be growing and out in front of new eyes.

I miss book Twitter circa 2020-2022. It was fun. People made friends. The community was THRIVING. Now it’s just bots, rage baiting, and people glazing the same 5 books over and over. And god forbid you dislike one of the popular books.

Elric of Melnibone. And he managed to go through his villain arc and become a hero again.
I thought one of the best analyses in the Deities & Demigods was when Jim Ward (or possibly Robert Kuntz) defined Elric, the hero of a dozen or more books, as "Chaotic Evil" and went on to explain why Elric could still be a hero. He did a bang-up job. I wonder how many people had a light bulb moment about alignment because of that.
