Who failed this mother!? Few hours earlier she had delivered a happy healthy child to a day care centre and then she returns to carry away a lifeless body courtesy of some lunatic. You failed her, I failed her. We all failed her. So sad!

“Greetings Dr. Spire I hope you are well. I've seen you helping people on these streets and am reaching out to you with a sincere and humble request. I carry a burden on my heart that I believe, through your platform, could help a young girl who deserves a second chance. First, I'm currently residing in Türkiye as an international student. I have a niece (my half-sister’s daughter, we share the same mother). Her mother abandoned her, and since then, I have been the one responsible for her and my mother. She is the only girl living with my mother in Uganda. While I was still in A-Level, I began supporting them financially through teaching during holidays. In 2022, I scored 18 points in PCM and was admitted to Makerere University on government sponsorship. However, the sponsorship was not enough to cover my responsibilities back home. I tried to balance university and teaching at the same time-commuting while working- so I could continue paying her school fees and supporting my mother. It became too heavy. After one semester, I made the painful decision to withdraw from university so I could work full-time and ensure she at least completed her O-Level. By God’s grace, she passed, and she performed well. Later, I realized that if I ever wanted to sustainably support them, I needed to secure my own future first. I searched for scholarships and was blessed with an opportunity to study in Turkey. In my desperation to build a better foundation, I left Uganda quietly without properly informing them of my whereabouts. They still do not know exactly where I am. Even now, I occasionally send small amounts- UGX 50k or 100k- to my mother’s phone to help them with food and basic needs without informing them. But it is not enough to enroll her into A-Level. And this reality haunts me every day. She is very bright, disciplined, and determined. It pains me deeply that her education has stopped because of financial hardship. I feel responsible, because in many ways, I am the only one she has. I am humbly asking if you could share her story on your platform. If any good Samaritan is willing to support her return to school, I am ready to provide full details and accountability. I am not seeking sympathy -only an opportunity for a deserving girl to continue her education. I've way bigger personal problems, but it'll do me good if another person is helped instead. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your voice has changed lives before, and I pray it could change hers too. In case of more information needed, I'm willing to cooperate and verify this.”

32 years ago today, i was woken up by a strong earth tremor. Little did i know then, that by the end of that day an earthquake of unmeasurable magnitude would have shaken my life. Maama, i know you still tend us from a distance! We love still!

January 1 begins the second half of our Rotary year. In sport, halftime is a pause to reflect, adjust, and prepare. The festive season gave us that. Today we return to service refreshed, aligned, and ready to build on the first half lessons as we finish strong. #RotaryEyamba
