The Liberals are so obsessed with opposing everything they have started opposing themselves.
Anthony Albanese@AlboMP

Labor’s legislation is unravelling. When Labor’s own MPs privately describe it as a “sh**show”, and today’s front pages label it a shambles, Australians can see that this is a bill not fit for purpose.
The Coalition has serious concerns about Labor’s clumsy attempt to deal with antisemitism and extremism. As drafted, it fails the most basic test of all. It does not clearly eradicate antisemitism, nor does it seriously confront radical Islamic extremism. Across more than 500 pages, the term “radical Islam” is not mentioned once. If the Prime Minister cannot bring himself to name the problem, he cannot be expected to solve it.
Parliament can and should be able to criminalise antisemitic extremist hate preaching while upholding free speech. But when the government cannot explain how its own laws would operate, Parliament cannot support them and the community cannot have confidence in them.
The Coalition will continue to scrutinise this legislation and engage constructively. On the evidence so far, however, it raises more questions than answers and appears fundamentally unsalvageable.

Labor’s clueless response to the Bondi atrocity is in a dangerous new phase as it palms off fine moral judgements about what constitutes hate speech to our left-leaning judiciary, writes Nick Cater.

@SenatorWong @Smartraveller Your government wanted to further reduce free speech with your draconian hate speech laws designed to censor opponents. Probably the same type of legislation that they have in Iran!!
English

Australia stands with the courageous people of Iran and condemns the Iranian regime’s brutal crackdown.
We continue to advise Australians not to travel to Iran. If you're in Iran, leave if it is safe to do so.

There was a time, around two years ago, when it was still possible to debate whether Jim Chalmers would go down as the worst treasurer in Australia’s history. There were pauses, doubts, caveats.
That debate is over.
What makes his achievements even more remarkable is that Chalmers has presided over the most favourable revenue conditions a treasurer could reasonably hope for. Commodity prices surged. Inflation delivered a tax windfall. The fiscal weather could hardly have been sunnier. And yet here we are. Deeper in the hole and digging faster.

@Matt_Camenzuli I don’t believe the total number of accounts has changed by the amount claimed

They’re an angry clown show. 🤡 Weaponising a terrorist attack and just hating on each other. #auspol

@palaceletters What went wrong? The extremely draconian piece of legislation presented to parliament. Weak leaders always seek to shutdown free speech.

PM Albanese to split hate speech Bill as Coalition refuses to support it after demanding new laws for weeks. Libs now politically irrelevant as Split deepens. Gun laws to pass w Greens support, the biggest gun buyback since the Port Arthur massacre #auspol theguardian.com/australia-news…

The Coalition demanded that @AlboMP recall Parliament before Christmas to draft and pass hate speech laws. Now the Coalition opposes those laws. Looking forward to reviewing its alternative laws before Monday’s sittings.

On 18 December, the Coalition called on the government to recall parliament and pass hate speech laws before 25 December. Now, they say they won’t support Labor’s laws to crack down on hate speech. My interview this morning: andrewleigh.com/transcript_abc… #auspol

@craigkellyAFEE He should never have been in the first place except for the failure of the LNP to remain a conservative party and not chase after socialist policies of the ALP

IT’S TIME — Albanese Needs to Go
🔴He was elected by deceiving the public on electricity prices — which are about to rise yet again.
🔴He divided the nation with the failed "Voice" referendum, costing $500 million.
🔴He is directly responsible for the worst housing crisis in our nation’s history — and his ‘housing target’ is hopelessly behind.
🔴He tried to introduce a Ministry of Truth with the aborted Mis- and Disinformation Bill, which would have empowered government bureaucrats to censor anything they deemed "misinformation".
🔴Living standards have fallen as he divides the nation with mass migration at unprecedented extreme levels.
🔴Our nation’s competitiveness is going backwards.
🔴He had to be dragged kicking and screaming to call a Royal Commission into the worst terrorist attack in our nation’s history.
🔴His Ministers have been caught red-handed rorting their expenses; even the Attorney-General was busted and had to repay money.
🔴On the streets of Melbourne, crimes associated with the third world; machete violence, car-jackeying and home invasions are now common place and spreading to other cities.
🔴His proposed "Hate Speech Bill" should be the final straw.
🔴He’s exploited the Bondi tragedy to attempt to bring in legislation enabling him to imprison critics of his migration policies.
🔴And his polling numbers are now heading in the same trajectory as Keir Starmer and Labour in the UK — just 18 months behind.
🔴Our nation’s worst Prime Minister ever. He’s done. It’s time. He needs to go.

@DrCraigEmerson The ALP went way too far with such a draconian piece of legislation, much akin to what a communist country would put forward
English

@AaronDodd I think about the simpletons that believe with cult like intensity
English

@JulianHillMP Australia deserves a democratic government not intent on turning Australia into a communist country with complete censorship and removal of all sense of freedom of speech
English

Even for them, a new low as they politicise a terrorist attack.
Australians deserve unity, not more Coalition division. #auspol

@Igh0108 @AlboMP @LiberalAus @OneNationAus @SkyNewsAust @Ausbobsmit @abcnews @dailytelegraph He does it all himself with failure after failure after failure. Then tries to top it off with legislation that a communist country would be proud of.
