One game, small sample size, etc., but that looked exactly the same as the ‘25 offense…bad ABs, swinging at the first pitch, not working counts, and being painfully unproductive with runners on base.
This may be another bad offense.

There was a time, not long ago, when the Astros believed in situational hitting. They would move runners over, hit sac flies, and would work the count. Those were good times, friends. Good times.

I get the concern, but this is a completely different ask than the ASG.

@SanAntonioTim I like the idea in theory but fear the opt outs would be even worse. After 3+ months of baseball so many players would just want to rest. Especially starting pitchers. Just see the ASG opt outs (and they're only asking for one or two AB and/or one IP not 3 games).

I think Jayson Stark’s idea is the best one. Do the pool play in March then do the single elimination over the ASB in July. Heck, you can even skip the ASG the year of the WBC. I don’t think many would care

The Padres told Team USA that Mason Miller could only pitch in a save situation. The Yankees told Team USA that David Bednar was unavailable. The Cubs told Venezuela that Daniel Palencia could only pitch in a save situation. There were other pitchers Venezuela didn’t have at their disposal because their MLB teams said they were unavailable. As much fun and as exciting as the WBC was this is exactly why it’ll always be a flawed tournament.

As a baseball fan, I hope the Bananas can help grow the game & I’m really glad the players get to still kind of play baseball and make some money doing it…but I don’t get it. It doesn’t offend me, but I don’t get it.
