NEWS! The govt has just announced its changing the Council Tax Debt Collection rules on the back of @mmhpi recommendations. Here's my official quote
-----
Council Tax debt collection is so aggressive it’d make banks blush. It’s the most vicious and damaging form of legal debt collection out there - causing counterproductive misery for millions. We’ve spent the last 18 months campaigning hard to change this hideous system, and having seen so much pain caused by it, I’m genuinely moved by this huge first step towards making things better.
Currently, in England, if you miss a monthly payment, many councils, within usually 3 weeks, demand payment for the entire year. How people who can’t find a month’s money are expected to find a year’s I don’t know. Yet if they can’t pay, within just three more weeks, they are often taken to court, have ‘admin costs’ added, and soon see bailiffs sent in. No commercial firm would be allowed to do anything close - constituents are treated worse than customers.
The new rule from next April means councils must wait two months, not 3 weeks, to ask for a year’s money, and the ‘admin costs’ will be capped at £100. In a perfect world, it would be even longer and the lower cap would apply, but this is still a hugely welcome change to a 33-year-old process. For councils too, it is worth remembering that this grotesque system is often catastrophic for people’s finances and wellbeing, leaving many needing more help and support, and ultimately the same council having to pick up the pieces.

@SocialM85897396 @MartinSLewis @mmhpi Can't blame the Labour government for this one. This has always been thr process since Council tax came in under the tories.

@MartinSLewis @mmhpi The Labour government, it’s because of a Labour government!

@GuillemBalague The way this media pile on regarding the booing, you'd think all 60,000 in the stadium were! I was there on Sunday and yes there were some boos but this was a small minority, the majority of fans stayed and applauded a team that has lost its 3rd game in all competitions.
English

Now that Arsenal fans are booing their own team and former players are lining up to criticise, let me offer the bigger picture, the one you hear across Europe.
Arsenal are not seen here as a team that has stalled. They are seen as a reference point. As the team many look at when trying to understand where elite football is heading.
The game has shifted, it is no longer enough to dominate the ball or to attack well. The top sides now compete in, and often decide matches through, the four phases that make teams excellent: organised attack, attacking transition, defensive transition and structured defence. At the highest level, those phases matter more than possession percentages or aesthetic debates.
This is where Arsenal stand out.
Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal control space, time and another very important element, rhythm. They are aggressive without being chaotic, but can create chaos to find gaps, they are compact without being passive. Their pressing is prepared in detail, lose the ball and the reaction is immediate. The opponent is denied oxygen.
Across Europe, this is understood as modern dominance.
The key battleground today is transition. Not what you do with the ball, but what happens the instant you lose it. Defensive rhythm has overtaken offensive rhythm. Space is smaller and time is shorter. The teams that survive are the ones that arrive first, win duels, plus reset order before danger appears.
Arsenal do this as well as anyone.
In Europe, Arsenal are seen as a team that has absorbed Guardiola’s ideas and pushed them forward, they have strengthened them for a football world that now plays faster, presses harder, and it totally punishes hesitation.
At the very moment Arsenal are being questioned at home, they are being analysed as a model.
Progress is often uncomfortable and it rarely moves in straight lines. Arsenal don’t look lost. In my eyes they look early!

@TomSwarbrick1 Oh my word Tom! That last caller Gary is exactly the reason the country is in the mess it is and sadly there are many more out there like him. Completely uneducated and has no idea and still said he isn’t racist despite wanted no blacks or Asians! Head wobble!

@mrbarnesscience @KellyTolhurst Yep, experienced both of them too. My house insurance doubled even though nothing has changed from the previous year and don't even get me started on car insurance! 🤣

@SkyNews Wasn't that what Brexit was supposed to do mate?

He said 'I'm very clear that the levels of net migration are too high, they need to come down to a more sustainable level.'

@AdmiralUK Wow Admiral. As a non fault party in an incident you are trying to make me financially responsible for a replacement part as a consequence of the incident? Makes no sense to me at all and would like a detailed explanation please!
English

@AdmiralUK Really disappointed with the level of customer service which should be a straightforward claim. Now without a vehicle and no one wants to give an estimate of when I will get a courtesy car even though I am the innocent party and both parties are insured by Admiral.

@AngelaRayner These Spineless Tory MP's need to grow a backbone and do the right thing before it's too late for everyone!

The Prime Minister is behaving like a tinpot despot.
For the good of our country, he needs to go and go now.

@KellyTolhurst Really weak Kelly. As my local MP I thought you would stand up for your constituents values and not tow the party line. The UK will still be able to support Ukraine without him as leader. Your part needs to do the right thing and get this liar out of office to gain respect again.
English

@VodafoneUK very disappointed with the service received today as the flyer to upgrade to fibre broadband is misleading if you are an existing mobile broadband customer resulting in my mother in law now having 2 accounts and not being able to cancel the existing mobile account.
