Last Friday at Gulu High School, we joined students and partners for a hands on tree planting activity. Working alongside @mytreeUganda and with support from local leadership including Christine Olok, Deputy Mayor of Gulu City, we engaged students in planting trees across the school community. Francis Topacho, our Chief Information & security Officer, noted that expanding greening efforts into Northern Uganda is a natural step in our broader environmental agenda, especially in regions that play a critical role in climate resilience. He emphasized that working with schools helps build both ecological impact and long term awareness among young people. Through the use of digital geo tagging, each tree will be monitored for long term care, while fruit forests are being established within schools to support nutrition and environmental awareness. This reflects our long term commitment to environmental restoration and climate action, anchored in our goal to grow 2 million indigenous, fruit, shade, and medicinal trees over the next three years, reinforcing our focus on sustainable community development across Uganda.

UBA Uganda, in partnership with My Tree Initiative, marked April 17, 2026, with a tree-planting exercise at Namalere Parents’ Nursery and Primary School in Kawanda, Wakiso District—creating a symbolic “UBA Fruit Forest” to promote sustainability and community impact 🌱🍎   led by Hoziana Niyonsaba Semanda, Head Marketing and Corporate Communications, and Adolf Gumisiriza, Branch Manager UBA Makerere Branch, alongside representatives from My Tree Initiative, the UBA team was welcomed by Headmaster Samuel Ssali, who thanked them and urged students to care for the trees they planted and enjoy their future benefits.   UBA emphasized environmental responsibility, encouraging the planting of at least three trees for every one cut, while My Tree Initiative’s Sharifu Semugera guided students on proper planting and care. Each pupil planted a tree, strengthening their role in conservation.   The initiative reflects UBA Uganda’s commitment to sustainable development, community empowerment, and environmental preservation.   #UBATreePlanting #UBAFruitTree
