Paul Winstanley is NOT responsible for the identification of transfer targets at Chelsea. His work centres more around the delivery of targets, through talking to and negotiating with clubs and agents. He is also heavily involved in player sales and the renewal of contracts. Winstanley is also involved in player support and football operations, such as performance and medical. (via @Matt_Law_DT)

🚨 Matt Law reveals the true roles of Chelsea’s Sporting directors as Chelsea believe there is an mis understanding.
Winstanley - NOT responsible for identifying targets. His role is the delivery of targets, contracts and sales, as well as medical and player support.
Stewart - Budget planning and style of play, as well as medical.
Shields - Identifying targets through scouting, as well as planning the first team squad. Heavily involved with loans, too.
Jewell - Squad identification and scouting, but both Chelsea and Strasbourg.
Fallows - Data, scouting and background checks on players, an area which Chelsea are likely to lean heavily on this summer.

‼️The new head coach will be made an equal partner in the identification and signing of players.
He will have a big say in who they are and the types of characters and players he believes will push Chelsea forward, with his role likely to be more meaningful than some of his predecessors.

‼️ Xabi Alonso is the standout candidate and Chelsea have directly spoken to all of their potential permanent successors to Liam Rosenior, who include Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Fulham’s Marco Silva and Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner.

@CFCPys @JacobsBen @GiveMeSport Just realized this Xabi Alonso deal is probably done, but Clearlake is waiting to brief reporters after the FA Cup final, when we inevitably lose, and while fans are unhappy.

🚨 Chelsea are working on Xabi Alonso and could see more developments in the next days. Their preference at this stage is for Alonso over Iraola. (@JacobsBen @GiveMeSport market madness)
English

🚨 The Chelsea recruitment structure is not about to change – the club have a team of five sporting directors, headed by Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart – but there is a recognition that someone of Xabi Alonso’s stature must be listened to when it comes to signings. There would be zero desire on Chelsea’s part to impose players on him.

BlueCo have done nothing but let the fans down for 4 years and as soon as a few positive briefs drop, you expect Chelsea fans to drink the Kool-aid
That’s a pathetic mentality 👍🏾
Vince™@Blue_Footy
You want the owners to do things right, and when it's about to happen, you start rejecting and downplaying it. That's sadists' mentality.
English

@Blue_Footy @David_Ornstein It’s our own fanbase with those nonsense mentality
English

🎙 @David_Ornstein: "Many people sort of quite flippantly say no coach will want to work there [at Chelsea].
That's just nonsense. Coaches want these jobs. Chelsea's a massive club. It's got a storied recent history."

@NotAProjectCFC Doing this at a cup final is not it. Projecting this much negativity onto the team is not helping anyone.

We look forward to replicating the scenes and momentum generated from our last protest march prior to the United game back in April when we march again at Wembley on Saturday.
The momentum is building and more supporters are beginning to recognise the importance of standing together to protect the identity and future of Chelsea Football Club.

Simon Jordan on Alonso to Chelsea:
🗣 "Chelsea is a big football club, just because they caught a cold for the last couple of years.
This idea that no one is gonna work for them. It's just foolish people that don't know what they're talking about. Never actually run football clubs and never actually employed managers."

🚨 JUST IN: Xabi Alonso has now opened doors to Premier League and therefore would be open to joining Chelsea if they can find a good way to go ahead together. Chelsea are assessing all options before deciding to go all in for their target. (@FabrizioRomano)
