Not to be THAT dictionary, but… It’s ‘per se,’ not ‘per say.’ It’s ‘dog-eat-dog world,’ not ‘doggy-dog world.’ It’s ‘hunger pangs,’ not ‘hunger pains.’ It’s ‘one and the same,’ not ‘one in the same.’ It's 'buck naked,' not 'butt naked.'

I have been following the emerging fallout between the President & Parliament & this here is my highlight so far. The legislator here was asking whether there's anything this Parliament hasn't done for the President (emphasis on "FOR THE PRESIDENT"). "This President gave us a Finance Bill (2024) that was very unpopular, we passed it FOR HIM. This President gave us the Housing Levy that was very unpopular, we passed it FOR HIM. This President has asked us to pass SHA, we sat here until 10:00pm & passed it FOR HIM. What haven't we done FOR HIM? What has this parliament not done FOR THE PRESIDENT that he now has to come & bastardise us. Let him do his job" This right here is the problem some of us have been flagging for years - Parliament simply forgot its job & whose brief it holds in that House. Separation of powers doesn't exist, checks & balances are a rumour.

The person is getting a lot of stick for using a "word sandwich," and I can see why. I remember providing spokesperson training to senior managers of a Fintech company who had similar struggles addressing different audiences. The language you use at a corporate roundtable must be different from outreach communication. Complex words turn off audiences. You must think about what you mean and take corporate or C suite jargon off and replace it with relatable language For instance: "Direct-to-learner training" → "Bringing training directly to you, whether you are in Kangundo or Taveta" "Skilling" → "Helping you learn practical AI skills for your career ( whether you are a content creator, architect or even a teacher) "Scale" → "Reaching as many Kenyans as possible to make a bigger impact." In a sentence: "This program is about making AI training accessible to every Kenyan from Taveta to Bumala, teaching real skills you can use whether you are a farmer or content creator, and ensuring we reach as many people as possible." Everyday language is what makes complex communication relatable. Simplify. Humanise. In public communication, talk to your grandma, not your masters supervisor.
