This evening, I had the opportunity to condole with Mama Ida Odinga and the Odinga family at their home in Karen. Raila was an architect of our democracy, a voice for the voiceless, and a man who understood that true leadership means building bridges and serving the people. His work is woven into the very fabric of our nation, in the freedoms we enjoy and the peace we have. To Mama Ida and to this remarkable family: know that his legacy is safe. Kenya lives on in those of us he mentored. I will honour him by living the values he embodied, with integrity, with hope, and with an unwavering commitment to our people. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Fellow Ugandans, Kenyans and all Africans. It is with alot of sadness that I, today, the 15th of October, 2025, received the news of the death of Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya. Rt. Hon Odinga has not been just a career politician. He has been a freedom fighter, in the tradition of his late father, Jaramogi Odinga, the 1st Vice-President of Kenya. Ideologically speaking, they have been with the patriotic and Pan-Africanist orientation. I have shared ideas with both of them. Their sentiments have been for the unity of Kenya, East Africa and Africa, including always supporting the struggles for the realization of our dream for the East African Federation. It is, therefore, unfortunate that he has left at this moment. It is important for the young People to fill the void left by such historical fighters for Africa’s future. We may not have always agreed with his choices, but we cannot deny his sacrifice. His voice shook systems. His resilience moved mountains. History will remember him as a man who walked where others feared to stand. My deepest condolences to Mama Ida, the Odinga family, and the millions of Kenyans whose hope was once kindled by his courage.
