@glukianoff The problem is not necessarily publishing new theories, but the lack of professional rewards in some fields for scholars to test someone else's theory. In such fields, the published literature fills up with stories (theories), and few examine if the stories hold up.

Let's not forget the Stanford prison experiment and the Kitty Genovese story. Or that Marx's historical research was essentially bull. And Foucault's history on which he based many of his assumptions was bad, and so much more that has been canceled or cajoled, and we are standing on a mountain weak, or even fabricated, assumptions.

@glukianoff Sacks, Gino, Arieli, Covid lockdowns except for BLM protests... Is it any wonder that trust in "experts" has cratered?

@DorotheaBaur This is not surprising. I have found almost no useful ways to increase my productivity. Now, if I didn't care whether I actually wrote papers, reviews, etc. or if they were useful or accurate...

“Developers thought they were 20pc faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19pc slower when they had access to AI than when they didn’t.” Using AI made them less productive, but "they swore blind that the opposite was true". msn.com/en-us/news/tec…

@hausfath FYI there is a typo (deecending rather than descending) on Carbonbrief's search sort.

@kaleekreider @AnthonyAdragna Unfortunately Wired's headline is quite misleading, as it suggests that there is missing footage. The text of the article says that the missing time does not necessarily mean there is missing footage.

Has this app become much less useful as a news source? In recent weeks, my feed has been overtaken with garbage video clips. Did all the interesting people leave? The algorithm change? Both? When news broke, my feed used to be full of commentary and scoops. No longer.

@kaleekreider Wow that is the most clickbait title I’ve seen. Has little to do with the article's content that is quite pessimistic about the value of supposed AI agent employees!

New paper identifies 12 questions to determine if a company has a "regenerative orientation" toward social and ecological systems.
