🚨🇮🇷 Iran basically closed the Strait of Hormuz. They used cheap drones and traffic dropped to zero.
This is the biggest energy crisis since the 1970s. 20% of global oil flows through that strait. Alternative pipelines? 2.6 million barrels/day capacity. Normal flow? 20 million barrels/day.
Production's collapsing because producers can't export, can't store, have to stop pumping:
* Iraq: Down 70%, cut 1.5M barrels/day
* Kuwait: Just announced cuts, 14 days until storage full
* U.S. crude: Up 35.6% in one week. The biggest gain in futures history
Asia's getting crushed. Japan imports 95% of crude from Middle East. Europe's competing for Atlantic LNG after Qatar shut down. China's the only ships still transiting.
Iran didn't need mines or missiles. Just $20,000 drones and the threat of using them. Insurers did the rest.
U.S. offered escorts and subsidized insurance. Shipping companies said "we're not risking crews in a war zone bruh."
Asymmetric warfare perfected. $20K drones shut down 20% of global oil supply. GG.

A beast style cold wave is robustly signalled in NW Russia in mid January.
One can understand why model runs from ECM have been playing with bitterly cold air from east. There will be a large and expansive frigid Siberian cold pool close to Europe over next few weeks.
If this cold is advected we seize the opportunity of exceptional cold spell during coldest weeks of winter. I do think we have a shot at something big here.
