sorry to the 40-year-old pundits who are still addicted to campusposting but the most transformative moments of college for me have involved doing 400 pages of readings a week, sitting in seminars with some of the most brilliant people i've ever met, and watching the conversation move so quickly that i could feel my brain exerting itself in real time. perhaps this is because i actually got a real degree instead of studying a fake Coursera major like "computer science" or "economics"

the problem is that everyone is drawn to extremes. extreme optimism, extreme doomerism, and extreme “idgaf” ideology (self proclaimed contrarians on twitter are especially prone to that) it’s good to have nuance and to be moderate, because that’s probably closer to the actua outcome of any situation ever. and i guess that sounds obvious when you read it but our brains like extremes and that’s why politicians running on platforms that will never ever occur works. everyone knows it will never happen. it’s the *principle*. and principles are good if you know how to modify them to be applicable to the real world (values and morals and things of that nature). but trying to directly apply them is nonsensical and goes against the entire purpose. but i digress because now i’m just ranting and should probably turn this into something long for instead
