This is exactly why we forced the vote. What happened behind closed doors needed to be brought into the light, because the American people deserve transparency. What’s been happening is deeply wrong, and it’s hurting families across this country. I’m grateful to every Democrat and Republican who is signing onto this legislation. We have to work together to put a stop to it, it’s that serious.

@Savsays Well said. This is precisely the source of the current predicament faced by the younger generation in marriage and work. Economic policies need to consider the real needs of young people more, rather than simply blaming them or offering superficial solutions.

I haven’t talked about this yet, but I became a first time home owner this year. I had to move to a completely different city for 2 years just to save for my downpayment because I couldn’t do so while still paying rent in the city I was living in. I was only able to do this because I work remotely. Most Americans, especially those that are stuck in a specific city for work, do not have this luxury. I also am blessed enough to have multiple streams of income and buying and saving for this home would not have been possible with just one. My home is not extravagant and I’m living OUTSIDE of the city. With the current price of homes, high interest rates and high grocery prices I am feeling the pinch of homeownership despite still making an effort to live below my means. It is ridiculous to say that younger Americans can’t afford homes because they’re “lazy” or make financially bad choices. Yes, absolutely some do, but there is a clear affordability crisis that even the most fiscally conservative of us are feeling. Couple that with younger Americans also having to compete with the entire world for jobs AND housing and you have a recipe for disaster. Buying a home shouldn’t require multiple jobs, relocating and struggling to make ends meet. Also the message that the “economy is good” is not resonating with voters because we absolutely do NOT feel that. We will continue to lose younger voters if we don’t address these issues and continue to speak down on Gen Z like they’re idiots, when in reality they’ve been hit with an economy flooded with a deflated dollar, a housing shortage, an immigration crisis and corporations that are allowed to outsource American jobs to save a quick buck. We need to start focusing on younger Americans or we will continue to lose.
