Every time. These questions paralyze me, and yet, they undergird our cultural notions of selfhood. Feeling intimidated by them tangles with the worry that I can’t answer them honestly, cannot answer them in truth. I don’t have a writer self or an art practice or career goals.

Feels like we are telling ourselves the story. Modern media presents everything to us. Responses are more emotional but less embedded.

@theobertram There is a root cause of why a large group support Reform, Trump etc. But few see or want to acknowledge it. Everything else like education, social media, snake oil salesmen or media complicity are side-shows to the real reason we’re drifting to authoritarian celebrities.

I talk to many MPs who are nervous about Reform. Each has a different view about the scale of the threat & how to respond. I don't have all the answers but these 3 viewpoints are wrong: 1. social media is to blame 2. Reform voters are being conned 3. Farage is somehow 'cheating'

@amwilson_opera School should be a place where every student feels a success. At 1 thing. Anything. Job of teachers is to find a subject/skill each child can be genuinely great in & ensure they get recognition for this. Leaving feeling a failure is one cause of society’s political fractures.

Here's where I would like to teach. A small institution entirely devoted to the arts and humanities, where students could choose freely from modules in history, literature, languages, and the history of art, music and architecture. No overly political spin. Who's in?

Just had a fascinating lunch with a 22-year-old Stanford grad. Smart kid. Perfect resume. Something felt off though. He kept pausing mid-sentence, searching for words. Not complex words - basic ones. Like his brain was buffering. Finally asked if he was okay. His response floored me. "Sometimes I forget words now. I'm so used to having ChatGPT complete my thoughts that when it's not there, my brain feels... slower." He'd been using AI for everything. Writing, thinking, communication. It had become his external brain. And now his internal one was getting weaker. Made me think about calculators. Remember how teachers said we needed to learn math because "you won't always have a calculator"? They were wrong about that. But maybe they were right about something deeper. We're running the first large-scale experiment on human cognition. What happens when an entire generation outsources their thinking? Don’t get me wrong, I’m beyond excited about what AI and AI agents will do for people in the same way that I was excited in 2009 when the App Store was launched. But thinking out loud you got to think this guy I met with isn't the onnnnnly one that's going to be completely dependent on AI.

@WalshFreedom Sad fact of someone who lies all the time, is others choose which of the lies to believe & ignore the rest. Gives them a wide appeal, if you find fantasy more comforting than facts. Hard question is how to fight back against this. Find a better liar or hope the truth can win?
