Am I the only one who doesn't like how FAST AI is moving?
I want to be able to learn something today, then have that knowledge be applicable and useable for the foreseeable future - not completely obsolete in 24 hours.
It makes it intimidating and frustrating to start learning how to actually implement AI into some of my day-to-day.
What sparked this thought? Attending the @wpengine DECODE developer conference for the first time.
Every talk is heavily focused towards the "intelligent web" and how to optimize your client's sites as an agency for this new web where AI does all the thinking for the users now.
There was deep dives into how to get AI hooked into your WordPress site via an MCP to take advantage of the Abilities API. And honestly this tech seems cool and very useful for solving real problems.
I will admit that I enjoy seeing real problems being solved with sensible and practical applications using AI BUT everything showcased (regarding basically anything AI) always has this asterisk next to it saying "this is experimental due to how rapidly the AI space is evolving"
So how long until this landscape is completely changed AGAIN and there will be a new fancy solution to the same problem? 24 hours, 72 hours, 1 week.
The answer to that question doesn't matter, the fact that we even have to ask that question in the first place means we are too focused on seeking hype, buzzwords, and fake results more than we care about actually providing solutions to problems that people are experiencing daily.
This is why I tend to just avoid heavy AI automation altogether and focus on elevating the quality of my own work through education and trial/error. That way I only have myself to blame rather than pointing a finger at OpenAI, Gemini, or Claude.
I can't confidently AI automate my life because I'm seeing no stability or quality when AI gets involved.
For now, I will ignore the hype and stick to doing things the way I can guarantee the highest level of quality... without AI.
@nathanielDeH Life of a creative! I know how that goes.
I'm spoiled by @switchyards. I was a founding member when they came to Nashville, so I have a ridiculously low price for life (as long as I don't cancel), soooo they got me. I'm never cancelling 🙊
@craylor Dude I wish there was a good one around here!
I say all this, but often times I just shoot from the hip because so many different things get thrown my way in a day's time 😂 Gotta be ready at a moment's notice
The amount of stupid ass problems that you can avoid by practicing inbox zero is uncalculatable.
Just read or delete your emails and consistently check the spam.
Not rocket science.
(You're busy. I get it. Use AI to do it. I don't care. Just make sure it gets done.)
I’m not familiar with Davinci but that looks to be a comparison viewer so you can lock on to 1 frame in your timeline as a reference for your active play head.
It’s basically essential for color grading and color matching different shots.
Not sure how to get rid of it but you can maybe find some keyboard shortcut tied to the comparison viewer.
Daniel Defense PCC with 9mm 8'' CHF barrel, MLOK rail, ambi controls, gas busting B&T RBS low back pressure suppressor, ambi charging handle, CZ Scorpion pattern magazine, camo cerakoted finish, SBA3 adjustable brace, hydraulic buffer, and FDE Vortex Crossfire II red dot optic for $1,999 currently here: mrgunsngear.org/3Ou7e1I
Review of the PCC is up on my channel; cheapest I've seen the combo 🔴🇺🇸🤫
@craylor The difference between regular and Super grok is actually crazy.
I would get so frustrated because it seemed just dumb. But upgraded models and it’s a night and day difference.
@nathanielDeH I'll have to try it out! I've experimented with Grok over the months and have never loved it, but AI changes so fast. It seems like it is always searching the web even for basic questions.
Just cancelled my ChatGPT Plus subscription. After a few months of regular Gemini usage, I'm ready to commit and say goodbye to ChatGPT. I'm tired of being glazed aggressively.
Adobe software is an absolute pig for system resources. It sucks! I ditched Adobe a long time ago.
For PDFs I just use Preview (don't need anything special) but for a Photoshop Alternative I would HIGHLY recommend Pixelmator Pro. It is so much better in every single way. And way lighter weight because it was built specifically for Apple Silicon.
That’s a bummer to hear! I’ve heard that about the silicone cases and avoided them for that reason. Some of the case reviewers spoke positively of the Tech Woven case, and to be fair, it’s been quite nice aside from the bubbling issue. I have never owned a bad Spigen or Tech21 case though, so I think I’ll be sticking with those in the future.
Bought an official @Apple case this year for my iPhone 17 Pro Max, and it’s already falling apart. The fabric around the port is bubbling. The sad part is, I can’t seem to speak to a human at Apple about getting a warranty replacement. Apple usually has good customer service 🤔
I don’t feel forms plugins are the culprit of big bloat. At least WS forms is crazy lightweight and free with lots of great and simple functionality.
Install free plugin. Create new form. (Usually just tweaking an already great template) Insert shortcode into HTML in Etch.
Done.
Now someone can get in touch with you, capture leads and grow your business.
That whole process MIGHT take 1 minute. I think Claude would take 1-2 minutes just thinking about how to do all of that.
It's a lot less bloat. And it's free. And before someone jumps in and says "wHaT aBoUt MaInTaInInG iT? It's also easy to maintain.
Not something a DIYer will want to do but WordPress is already difficult to use for DIYers, very few of them are making websites of any consequence so I tend not to worry about them as much when making predictions.
I think form plugins will be the first to go.. It's just too easy to build a functioning form with AI.
I'm not that guy claiming that you should vibe code every plugin but forms.... Yeah I'm not paying for a form plugin that's for sure.
@nathanielDeH@ws_form I tried ws forms, and I don't know if it's because I'm just so used to formidable forms or what but I did not like it.
I do use their SMTP plug-in on every site tho (or at least I used to)
@MarkJSzymanski AI is great at teaching me (or refreshing me) on syntax. I was able to think/prompt my way through a complex CSS problem I was having with the consultation of Grok.
