I’ve only ever seen 15 washing machines. This is quite hard to imagine.

BREAKING 🚨: A newly discovered asteroid the size of 16 washing machines will approach within 140,000 miles of Earth tomorrow (Feb. 22)

@matryer As a follow-up, times where the struct isn't the best option I will use multi-line arg lists, but not one per line. E.g. in SQL commands I'll have the ? in groups of say 5, and then the params match up that number - 5 per line
English

@matryer Interesting idea. Personally I prefer the struct when the list gets long, say >4. I would then use custom types in the struct to add clarity if need be. I prefer this as optional args can be handled, and that can save a ton of time and still be clear.
English

How do you feel about long vertical argument lists, in any language? #golang #typescript #javascript #html #rust #ruby #c #dart #swift #alltherest
It won't surprise you to hear I've got opinions: #long-argument-lists" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">grafana.com/blog/2024/02/0…

It's been a while since I published anything on my blog, but the story about paying taxes to Caesar really gripped me recently. Here are my thoughts, so far, on this brief exchange.

@goinggodotnet Happy Birthday. I hope you have a great day of celebrations

@Madhatter4u77 My answer then takes a similar path 😂. Yet if I listen to an answer as rambling and tangled as the ones I give, I lose focus and wish they'd get to the point

@odbol @FitFounder @girdley This is 100% what a staycation is. Thank you.
The misuse of this term, for some irrational reason, drives me mad.
If you vacate your home, it's a vacation. If you stay in your home, it's a staycation.
Travelling & remote working is a fun idea, I plan on doing this in the future
English

@FitFounder @girdley I thought staycation meant you stay in your home where you normally live, and spend the hotel+flight money you saved on doing fun local stuff like spas, amusement parks, etc

An excellent chart from an excellent book (which arrived today): Jeremy Treat’s The Atonement. Such a helpful guide to this most important of subjects.
Jeremy Treat@JeremyTreat5
The death of Christ is a multidimensional accomplishment within the story of the kingdom. While its achievements (forgiveness, victory, adoption, etc) are endless, the heart of the cross, out of which everything flows & finds coherence, is Christ dying in our place for our sins.

I'm loving the bullet that missed by @richardosman. The question is when will these marvellous stories be serialised? I would love to watch these. Come on @BBCOne you know you want to

@DrSteveMc @James_Mo55 🤣😂🤣😂
Obviously a Welah pool would be even better than fancy
😂🤣😂🤣😂

Me: Tomorrow we’re going to a swimming pool at a hotel [in Coventry]
Youngest son: Is it fancy … or is it Welsh?
Me: Errrr?!

@SpotifyStatus Yep, lots of songs skipped, plus it won't connect to my sonos speaker

This was fixed using the Dir field on exec.Command in #golang. Now I don't care why I get .uuid files, I simply contain them, and I can delete them at the end.
Nathan Davies@nathj07
Today's oddity is a cli tool that generates random .uuid files. I've no idea why, and there are no docs. But I do have to use this tool, and I definitely don't want these files
English

@pattyneta I've experienced this pain. It is real. It happened to me when I was staying in a hotel because a flight was cancelled. I was so tired, so fed up, and then couldn't use my Mac to buy a new hat to replace the one I lost in the airport. I believe I cried
English

@tlakomy I worked in a place where we used VFP6 and then VFP9. We didn't have a rule, but did tend towards a single return. It worked out pretty well there IIRC (this is 20yrs ago). Now I work in Go, & early returns are the best. In this language they improve the glanceability of the code
English

@flowdev_org Yeah, context is key. I'm more concerned by the sort of "x desire is always a red flag" or "you must be doing y" type statements that never consider a different context.
English

@nathj07 The only 'polarising' statement I adhere to is:
You must respect the context.
Everything else is good advice only in some (possibly other) context.
I think this is pragmatic. 😊
