As Gender Focal Point under the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, Malta continues to advance the integration of gender perspectives into nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

We are deeply concerned by the ongoing developments in the Middle East, the Gulf and Iran. We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, protect civilians, respect international law, and allow dialogue to prevail. Our consular team in Malta and at Maltese Embassies across the region are fully engaged and providing all necessary assistance to Maltese citizens.

1/2 During yesterday’s #UNGA meeting on the Use of the #Veto, PR @natmeli reiterated 🇲🇹Malta’s firm view that the Veto Initiative is essential to promoting transparency and accountability when the veto is used by a member of the UN Security Council.

At a joint meeting of the UN GoF on #Climate and GoF on #Oceans, 🇲🇹 Malta reaffirmed that ocean protection must be at the heart of climate action. PR Natasha Meli @natmeli echoed calls for integrated action to address the ocean-climate nexus at #COP30 and beyond.

1/3 Today Malta is delighted to celebrate the first-ever International Day of the Deep Seabed, and we are proud to have played a role in launching this important initiative. On this day almost 60 years ago, Arvid Pardo, then PR of Malta to the UN, spoke at #UNGA.

Malta remains committed to building on the 2024 Maltese Chairpersonship to ensure that the @OSCE continues to be an effective platform for dialogue, now more than ever. Ahead of tomorrow’s Helsinki+50 Conference, I joined @Ulkoministerio @elinavaltonen, @SwissMFA @SwissMFAStatSec and @OSCESecGen in a meeting of the OSCE Troika to discuss organisational developments and key regional issues, including Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

Just delivered the message that Malta will recognise the Palestinian State on the margins of #UNGA80 in September. Stressed the importance of unhindered humanitarian access and an immediate ceasefire to work towards peace with the aim of having two states living side by side.

Today 🇲🇹 joined 41 Participating States in invoking the Moscow Mechanism to investigate the allegations of torture, ill-treatment & executions of Ukrainian POWs. This is crucial to assess violations of #humanrights & call for accountability. @DeputyPMIanBorg @natmeli @MFTMalta @OSCE

The crime of aggression must never go unpunished. As #MTCoE2025 President of the @coe Committee of Ministers, I had the honour of presiding over the signing of the Bilateral Agreement on the Establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine, alongside @ZelenskyyUa and @alain_berset. A just and lasting peace demands not only resolution - but accountability.
