Nearly 178,000 mothers and 1 million newborns die every year in Africa, mostly from preventable causes. At #IMCH2026, I delivered a keynote on the urgent need to accelerate progress in maternal, newborn, and child health. We know what works. What is needed now is delivery at scale: stronger health systems, sustainable financing, innovation, and country-led action. This is not only a health imperative. It is a justice issue, a development issue, and a sovereignty issue. No woman should die while giving life. No child should die from preventable causes. Africa must lead this effort—and Africa must deliver. ------ Près de 178 000 mères et 1 million de nouveau-nés meurent chaque année en Afrique, en grande partie de causes évitables. Ce n’est pas seulement un enjeu de santé. C’est un enjeu de justice, de développement et de souveraineté. Aucune femme ne devrait mourir en donnant la vie. Aucun enfant ne devrait mourir de causes évitables. L’Afrique doit prendre la tête de cet effort — et l’Afrique doit produire des résultats. #MaternalHealth
