Here's Fulop saying the first things he would do would be increase taxes, especially on the wealthy and that he'd do it when he first gets into office because that's when he'd have the most political capital

Big news for Journal Square. Today, Kushner Real Estate and I announced that we are turning 808 Pavonia Avenue — once slated for a Pompidou Museum satellite — into affordable housing for Jersey City residents. When the old plan stopped making sense, we found a better one. This is what is possible when the city and developers work together with residents in mind. #JerseyCity #JournalSquare #AffordableHousing

A huge thank you to @rosannascotto and @MrJerryOC for having me on today. From Jerry’s grandfather (the 34th mayor of Jersey City) to talking about hot dogs at Boulevard Drinks in Journal Square - you could feel the JC pride.

We believe Blizzard 2026 was one of the ten biggest snow storms in Jersey City’s recorded history. Our crews will be out overnight finishing their roadway clean-up. Tomorrow, we’ll expand our efforts to clear crosswalks and more. I want to say thank you to every Public Works crew member, MUA worker, police officer, fire fighter, and city employee who worked through that night (and the night after that): Jersey City sees your hard work and appreciates you. To our residents: thank you for your patience. We heard your frustrations after the last storm. We took notes. We incorporated real learnings, and while this one wasn’t perfect, it was a lot better. That’s the standard we’re holding ourselves to: not perfection, but constant improvement. In snow ops, and in everything we do. A few updates as we return to normal: 🗑️ Garbage collection resumes on its regular schedule this evening 🏫 Schools and government offices are open tomorrow 🧹 Street sweeping remains suspended for now Jersey City deserves a government as good as its people. We’re going to keep working towards that goal.

A potentially historic storm has arrived, Jersey City. DPW crews are out pre-treating streets. Once snow begins to accumulate our #1 priority is keeping our main streets open for emergency services, and then we are read plow the entire city. 🚗 If you haven't moved your car off corners/crosswalks/fire hydrants — do it NOW or risk towing. Public lots are open. 🏠 Check on your neighbors and begin limiting all non-essential travel. Staying off the roads helps our crews do their jobs. ⛱️ Strong winds are expected. Bring in or tie down loose outdoors furniture. ⚡ If you see downed powerlines or trees, call 911. 📱 Save these numbers: Emergency: 911 | Police Non-emergency: Call 201-547-5477 | Fire Non-emergency: Call 201-547-4255 | Warming Center: (732) 618-9694. 🚉 NJ Transit is shutting down buses and light rail at 6PM. We'll be updating you throughout the storm and at JCNJ.ORG/ADVISORY. Stay safe.  #JerseyCity #WinterStorm #JCReady

I had the honor to join Marcia Kramer on The Point to talk about how Jersey City ended up with a $250 million deficit and what we are going to do about it. Marcia prioritizes straight talk and truth, and I am proud to be leading Jersey City honestly. We will always tell the truth to our residents – even when the issue is uncomfortable. I highly recommend listening to our conversation about Jersey City’s future. youtu.be/iqvONKfQ95c?si…

I’m thankful for @SolomonforJC’s transparency with Jersey City residents about the budget deficit he inherited from the prior administration. We will work relentlessly to use every tool available at the federal level to help @JerseyCity move forward.
James Solomon@SolomonforJC

Jersey City, we promised to always be honest with you—even when the news is hard. Today, we're keeping that promise. After weeks of working with outside financial experts, we can now share the full picture of our city's finances. The truth is serious: Jersey City faces a structural budget deficit of approximately $250 million. That's roughly 28% of our entire operating budget—one of every three dollars we need to keep our city running. This crisis didn't happen by accident. It was built through years of deliberate choices that prioritized short-term political wins over our city's long-term financial health: -> By 2023, nearly 26% of city revenue came from one-time gimmicks—property sales, depleted reserves, emergency borrowing—that can't be repeated -> $20 million was spent on consultants for a museum that was never built -> Over $3 million in overpaid taxes that they for forgot to get back -> Health insurance was underbudgeted by over $34 million in 2025 alone -> Six union contracts expired with no money set aside for back pay -> The city's reserves—our rainy day fund—are essentially gone -> All three credit rating agencies have downgraded Jersey City in recent years We didn't create this problem. But we're not going to hide from it either. Our approach going forward is guided by four principles: (1) Tell the truth—always. (2) Lead by example—no more vanity projects. (3) Protect working families. (4) Find real solutions—no tricks or gimmicks. The full budget report is now available at JCNJ.ORG/BUDGET. We've also created a video that explains exactly how we got here and what comes next. This will be hard. But Jersey City has faced hard things before—and we've always come through when we faced them honestly, together. No spin. No tricks. Just the truth.

I want to dig more into the budget in the coming weeks but I do hope that the space being built out for the Pompidou is put to good use for the community. It might work as an art museum if there is a willing partner with the Met, Whitney, MoMA or Guggenheim across the river. 2/
